🚨 NJCA UPDATE — IMPORTANT NEW HUNTER ORANGE REQUIREMENT 🚨
NJCA members and New Jersey bowhunters need to be aware of an important change we discovered in the newly released 2026–27 NJ Hunting & Trapping Digest.
Page 22 now states:
“Whenever archery and fi****ms seasons occur at the same time, bowhunters in tree stands are required to wear hunter orange.”
This is a significant change. Previous Digests told tree-stand bowhunters they “should consider” wearing hunter orange during overlapping seasons. The new Digest changes that recommendation to “are required.”
NJCA has now contacted NJ Fish & Wildlife Law Enforcement, and we have been advised that the new hunter-orange requirement printed in the Digest is correct.
⚠️ However, we have identified another very important question that still needs an answer.
The new language says “fi****ms seasons.”
It does NOT say “fi***rm deer season.”
Why does that matter?
Coyote/fox season involving fi****ms begins September 8, while early Fall Bow deer season opens September 12 in certain zones.
NJCA has specifically asked Fish & Wildlife whether the coyote/fox fi***rm season constitutes an overlapping “fi****ms season” and therefore requires bowhunters sitting in tree stands to wear hunter orange beginning September 12 in those zones.
We are awaiting an answer to that specific question.
Until we receive clarification, NJCA does not want to speculate or give hunters incorrect information.
We wanted our members to hear about this from NJCA first rather than discovering the change after the season begins.
Please look closely at the attached flyer and SHARE THIS POST with your fellow New Jersey bowhunters.
NJCA will continue digging into this and will update everyone as soon as we have a definitive answer.
Stay informed. Stay involved. Protect our hunting heritage.
