RECIPROCITY
I just finished reading the current June issue of Tombstone Times. The front page article “What The Earth Remembers” is excellent reading. Good job Janice!! This is really not an article that will have much meaning to the multitude of visitors who come to our town. But those of us who live, work, volunteer and play here can take pride in what this article points out.
After the silver boom of the late 1800’s those who chose to stay “put down roots in the wreckage and became something other than miners. They became townspeople.
They became neighbors. They began…….the slow work of belonging to a place rather than merely using it.”
Janice gives recognition to the Tombstone Vigilettes, Tombstone Vigilantes, The Lions Club, Helldorado, Inc. and the Tombstone Forward Association who “carry that same spirit forward, giving back to the place they love without keeping score.”
As Treasurer and long time board member of both the Vigilantes and Vigilettes I can attest to the many times check books have been quietly opened to give a hand up to those in need. Along with the countless hours volunteered for righteous causes and events that make our town a good place to be.
“What you are given, you give back. That is the lesson written in this desert — in this town — in this long memory of the land.”
Thank you Tombstone Times as we the Vigilantes and Vigilettes greatly appreciate the recognition and we will continue in this same spirit of reciprocity.
