A good read from Second Chance Cavy Rescue! Amazon’s so called “C&C cages” are almost always smaller than the standard C&C cages, and are typically only 48x24 in dimension which is equivalent to only 8 sq ft of cage space! Guinea pig pairs need AT LEAST 10.5 sq ft of uninterrupted, single level floor space, and male pairs often need even more. Please make sure the C&C cage you are purchasing is at least measuring 56x28”. We sell C&C cage supplies through our rescue here in the Houston area, and also recommend the vendors listed below!

Interested in adopting a pair of rescued guinea pigs? If so, THANK YOU for considering rescue! By supporting rescue, you are saving more lives than just the piggies you adopt into your family. Here is some information on the process to adopt from PCPR:

Location: We don’t have a physical shelter, all our piggies reside in foster homes for the duration of their time with us. Although we have fosters throughout Houston, most adoptions happen through our main rescue house in the Tomball/Woodlands/Magnolia area. All adoption meetings are by appointment, and an approved application must be on file in order to adopt.

Adoption fees: There is an adoption fee of $35 per piggy, due at the time of adoption. Adoption fees help cover a portion of the costs of housing, feeding, and providing veterinary care for the piggies.

Adoption process:
Step 1- fill out the adoption application
Step 2- purchase a C&C cage and all other piggy essentials, and send photo to us for approval. (Feel free to confirm with us that your cage meets minimum size requirements before purchasing. We are happy to provide recommendations on where to purchase C&C cages and other supplies.)
Step 3- We will review your application and cage. If approved, next steps would be to meet your piggies, pay adoption fee and sign an adoption contract.

Please note…you do not need to pick a pair of piggies before starting the process! In fact, one of the benefits of rescue is that we evaluate the personalities and unique needs of our piggies, and will provide suggestions to help find the perfect match for your family.

Meet the “Thanksgiving” Family! Mama Autumn, Dad Tom (aka Turkey Tom), daughters Acorn & Cranberry, and lil boys Giblet & Gravy! Why are they called the Thanksgiving family? Because the little ones were all born on Thanksgiving! 🦃

This little family came to us after being rescued by a kind soul who saw them being given away free on Facebook when the babies were only days old and decided to rescue them.

As you can probably tell, sweet Mama Autumn is pregnant again, but lucky for her this will be her last pregnancy 🩷 her little ones will likely be arriving within the week!

The baby girls are currently unavailable, but boys Giblet & Gravy are looking for their forever home!! Contact us for an application 🩵
