Not the false self built from survival, shame, control, or image management.

The real you.

At The Renewal Center, so much of our work is about helping people return to that place — the place beneath the striving, the addiction, the fear, the resentment, and the stories we learned to live inside.

Because when the false self starts to loosen its grip, something beautiful begins to happen:

We begin to remember who we are.
We begin to trust the true self God created.
We begin to live from love instead of fear.

This is the work of renewal.

This past Sunday at Return Church, we witnessed the beautiful gift of baptism.

For us, baptism is not a symbol of self-improvement. It is a symbol of death and resurrection.

It is the public proclamation that something old has passed away and something new is emerging.

As a community, we know what it is to carry addiction, shame, resentment, image management, and the exhausting burden of trying to hold everything together by our own effort. We know what it feels like to live from the false self — the version of us built around survival, control, and appearances.

But Christ is not asking us to polish up the false self.

He is inviting us to release it.

To let it be buried.

To rise into something new.

That is the beauty of baptism. It reminds us that following Christ means following the way of Christ: living, dying, and rising.

We are so grateful for every person who made that public proclamation this past Sunday. What a holy and beautiful moment for our community.

Saturday night, we gathered for the first-ever Renewal Center Gala.

Stories were shared. Tears were shed. And nearly $100,000 was raised to continue the work of creating spaces of hospitality, recovery, dignity, and belonging.

We are overwhelmed with gratitude.
These photos are just a glimpse of what the room felt like. The real story is in the faces — brave participants, generous supporters, and a community that believes healing is possible.

Countless hours of planning, late nights spent organizing table charts, countless stories captured, several gracious sponsors connected with and only a few tears have culminated in the experience we get to put on tonight.

We get to share the years of work, transformation and stories to come out of The Renewal Center not only in Tomball and this community but the impact beyond just this zip code.

So whether you’re one of the over 150 guests coming tonight, met us in passing or just coming across us, we are so thankful you’re here.

Our only hope for tonight and every moment after is that you know you are loved, there is hope for every situation and that you’re not alone.

Each of us have an inner fire that needs tending. Something deep within that holds our God-given passions for being alive and “carrying the message.” But how do we connect to this inner fire? What is ours to do in regard to tending to it?

This Winter, we will be diving into scripture, recovery steps 10, 11, and 12 and contemplative prayer practices in the restorative landscape of the Texas Hill Country.

Together, we will lean into the deep indwelling connection to God and self to in order to ReOrient towards our identity in Christ and to hear the inner call that frees us from self bo***ge and leads us forward to share God’s love with the world.
