This week, three bills about wake boats and lakes are moving through the Wisconsin legislature. At Wisconsin's Green Fire, we support SB 1024. We see this bill as a good compromise that's still connected to a science-based approach to protecting our precious lakes. We encourage everyone to call your legislators about SB 1024!

SB 1024 creates statewide minimums for wake-enhanced boating:
- at least 500 feet from shore
- at least 20 feet deep
- protects local control
Critically, it specifically protects local control so communities who know their lakes best can enact greater protections for their lakes. It also protects those local decision-makers from nuisance lawsuits through civil immunity.
