nasa volunteers were excited to be included in Monroe County Health Department’s Slide into Safety program. Over 600 third grade students came to be taught about safety at 12 different stations. Schools came to the Recreation Building in Tomah from Arcadia, Blair-Taylor, NOW, Cashton, Kickapoo, Hillsboro, Bangor, West Salem, LaGrange, Lemonweir and Miller.

Nasa volunteers taught boater safety and proper use of life vests to the enthusiast students. The best question of the day: “What if a person fell in the water who was blind, had a broken arm, a broken leg and couldn’t swim?”. Thanks again to Shannon and MCHD for including us in a memorable day. Thanks also to nasa volunteers Connie Hurd, Jim Martell, Dan and Jeanette Boehm, and Dave and Laurie Stutzman.

Our tandem bicycle is back for the season and ready to be checked out. It is stationed in our bike trailer located in the Kendall Depot Parking Lot along the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail. It is free to use for the disabled and elderly. It’s simple to use. Call 608-514-9569 and listen for the option for biking. You will be given instructions on how to access and use the tandem bicycle. All participants must fill out a waiver before using the bike. They are located inside our trailer and on our website. Nasa will also pay for your trail pass, just stop inside to depot to get a free pass.

Our grant writing team of Public Health students in Angela Gelatt’s class finished and submitted a $30,000 grant to Emplify Health to help nasa raise money to replace the Ground Squirrel. We want to thank Angela (left) and our team of Lexie Wilberding, Julia Broadrick, and Emma Buschmann for all their hard work and dedication this semester and we wish them the very best future as all three graduate May 16th.
