EMERGENCY NEED: THREE WEIGHTED BLANKETS

***Update blankets needed are for children 100 pounds and lighter *****

We just received a message from a social worker asking for help. A local placement provider urgently needs three new weighted blankets for three children in their care.

Weighted blankets can provide a sense of security, comfort, and calm—something every child deserves, especially during an uncertain or difficult time. ❤️

Because weighted blankets must be appropriate for each child’s size, please contact Danielle before purchasing so we can confirm the correct, child-safe weights.

📞 Danielle: 608-343-1652

If you would prefer to make a monetary donation toward purchasing the blankets, that would also be greatly appreciated.

Please share! Together, we can help three children feel a little safer, calmer, and more comforted tonight.

August was an incredibly busy and meaningful month at Caring Closet Inc. Our records show:

✨ 56 family and resource connections
✨ More than 208 people represented
✨ 47 people reached during our Back-to-School event

These numbers represent so much more than visits. They represent children receiving clothing that fits, students starting school with the supplies they need, caregivers finding support, and families being reminded that they are not alone.

Throughout August, Caring Closet was utilized by families and professionals connected with:

• Comprehensive Community Services (CCS)
• Children’s Long-Term Support (CLTS)
• Monroe County Department of Human Services
• Jackson County Department of Human Services
• Birth to 3
• Local schools and school-support programs
• Kinship caregivers
• Supervised family visitation services
• Community families experiencing an urgent need

Support provided included clothing, shoes, bedding, diapers, school supplies, household essentials, supervised visitation space and other family resources—all completely free of charge.

Some family-size information was not recorded, so the true number of people impacted is likely even higher than 208!

We are deeply grateful to every donor, volunteer, community partner and professional who trusts Caring Closet to help support the children and families they serve. Because of you, families across Monroe and Jackson counties have somewhere to turn during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Together, we are making a difference—one child and one family at a time. ❤️

We are currently looking for donations of:

If you cannot donate right now, sharing this post may help us reach someone who can. ❤️

MONROE COUNTY DESPERATELY NEEDS FOSTER AND RESPITE PARENTS

Right here in Monroe County, children need safe, loving homes—sometimes for a few days, sometimes for several months, and sometimes longer.

We urgently need both foster parents and respite parents.

Respite parents provide temporary care, giving foster and kinship families a much-needed break while helping children remain safe and supported. You do not have to commit to fostering full-time to make an incredible difference in a child’s life.

You may be thinking:

“I could never foster. It would hurt too much when the child had to leave.”

But that is exactly what makes you so important to foster care.

Children deserve someone who will love them so deeply that saying goodbye hurts. They deserve to experience safety, comfort, stability and unconditional love—even when it may only be for a season.

The goal is not to avoid loving them because they may leave.

The goal is to love them while they are here.

You do not need to be perfect. You do not need to be wealthy, married or have a huge home. You simply need a safe home, a willing heart and the ability to show up for a child who needs you.

Please consider becoming a foster or respite parent in Monroe County. Even if fostering is not possible for you, sharing this post may help it reach the family a child is waiting for.

For information about getting started, contact the Monroe County Department of Human Services at 608-269-8600.

🧡 Every child deserves someone willing to love them that much.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR CARING CLOSET INC.!

I’m not even sure where to begin with the amount of gratitude I’m feeling tonight.

First and foremost, a HUGE thank you to JAC’S STEAKHOUSE and their entire staff who volunteered their time today. Seriously—you guys made it look EASY! 😂 Meanwhile, I was over there riding the struggle bus trying to keep up with all of our AMAZING community members who came through the doors!

You welcomed people, served breakfast, kept everything moving, and helped turn this fundraiser into such a wonderful experience. We truly could not have done it without you. ❤️

And to every single person who came out for breakfast, bought raffle tickets, made a donation, shared our posts, or simply stopped by to support Caring Closet Inc.—THANK YOU.

Today wasn't just about steak and eggs. It was about COMMUNITY. It was people coming together, giving what they could, volunteering their time, donating products and services, and showing that the children and families we serve matter.

A very special thank you to all of the businesses and individuals who helped make today possible:

❤️ JAC’S STEAKHOUSE & their incredible staff
❤️ US Foods
❤️ Brick + Bean
❤️ Tomah IGA
❤️ Kimptons Truck Service
❤️ Cranbar
❤️ NASA Squirrel Association for donating the freezer
❤️ Houston Dental
❤️ Kwik Trip
❤️ Driftless DJ Service for donating his time & equipment
❤️ Stacey & Mike for donating their absolutely BEAUTIFUL quilt
❤️ And everyone who donated, volunteered, purchased tickets, ate breakfast, or helped behind the scenes!

There are days when running a nonprofit feels overwhelming…and then there are days like today.

Days when you look around a packed room and realize just how many people believe in what you're doing.

Today was beautiful, heartwarming, a little crazy, and absolutely unforgettable. ❤️

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.

Every dollar raised, every item donated, and every person who showed up helps Caring Closet Inc. continue being there for children and families when they need us.

This is what community looks like.
And I am incredibly grateful to be part of ours. ❤️

Great food. Great people. An AMAZING cause. And one very full heart. 🥹❤️

THIS is what collaboration looks like.

Today was one of those afternoons that reminds me just how far we’ve come — and how much can happen when a community comes together for its children and families.

Monroe County Health Department, Birth to 3, Tomah Area School District, and Caring Closet Inc. all came together under ONE roof with ONE goal: making things a little easier for families.

In just one afternoon, children and families were able to:
🎒 Pick out school supplies and get ready for the new school year
💉 Receive needed vaccinations
💬 Ask questions and connect with professionals
🤝 Learn about resources and support available right here in our community
❤️ Get multiple needs met without having to travel from place to place

I am incredibly proud and grateful to have spent the afternoon alongside these amazing ladies. Each person brought something different to the table, but we all shared the same purpose — meeting families where they are and helping however we can.

Sometimes I look around Caring Closet and think about where we started…

From a quiet little space with a big dream, to a building filled with families, laughter, backpacks, conversations, resources, community partners, and CONNECTION.

In just ONE afternoon, we watched that dream in action.

This is exactly what we hoped Caring Closet could become — not simply a place to get clothing or supplies, but a place where organizations come together, barriers are removed, and families can find the support they need in one welcoming location.

To Monroe County Health Department, Birth to 3, Tomah Area School District, everyone who helped make today possible, and every family who walked through our doors — THANK YOU.

We are so incredibly grateful for this village. ❤️

Look what can happen when we stop working separately and start working TOGETHER. 🫶
