Annual Weather PSA: Bocce plays in almost all conditions.

If we have thunderstorms with lightning we have to stop the tournament until we have the all clear. We cross that bridge when we come to it....but awareness is key for all of us.

We are not looking for trouble - however; with all the recent weather events - we need to make sure we keep our players safe.

ALL games will stop during a lightning or damaging weather event...matches will stay in place, matches will not start over, scores stay as is at time of decision until we get the all clear.

We are looking forward to the big day. Weather is predicted to be 85 and Sunny - so this is merely a PSA...

Can you believe that the big tournament in Toluca is 4 weeks from today. Will you be there? Bring an appetite for great food, some cold beverages and some good clean fun with bocce.

The kids(all ages) can ride the rides from 2-10:30 this year!!

Wanted to repost how this tournament operates because we have received good feedback and questions on what type of tourney we run.

We strive to run a modified version of a double-elimination tournament. Each participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost two games or matches. When you participate in a single-elimination tournament, then one defeat results in your elimination.

* The caveat we have had to state in multiple years is that we have to sign teams up in powers of 2 -which is why we run a Men's(Co-ed) bracket of 256 teams, a Women's bracket of 64 teams and a Youth bracket of 32 teams. In some years we have inadvertently allowed an odd number to sign up - and we caution that odd # team that it is possible to get the DREADED first round bye.

That first round bye does count as 1 of your 2 matches in this "double elimination" tournament.
**So we have decided to not allow an odd # of teams to sign up this year - unless they agree to 1A below**

We always use a double-elimination tournament where we break down the teams into two sets of brackets, the 'championship bracket and consolation' bracket (Champions and Consolation brackets for short;

[1] The first-round winners proceed into the W or Championship bracket and the "losers" proceed into the Consolation bracket.

[1A] So we will only allow an odd # to sign up if we facilitate an understanding with that last team that they will have a 1st round bye and if they lose their 2nd game - the are out of the tournament.

[2] Both these brackets are then conducted in the same manner as a single-elimination tournament; and the top 16 finishing teams in both brackets are "in the money".

[3] All games after dusk - usually 7-7:30 PM must be played in the designated well lit lot - next to the bocce tent; if more teams are left and extra space is needed then the superintendents of the tournament will identify an additional well lit space.

[4] Teams should check in every 15-20 minutes after they win a match and report in to 'find' their next opponent to keep the tournament moving along.

Hope to see you in 6 weeks bright and early at the Memorial Circle on South Main Street. The Bocce Tent is huge and identified with larges signs and posters.

Reminder that towards the end of the day - all games will be played under the lights, so all players can see. If you are in a match & it gets too dark; stop play, move to the grassy lot. Questions or issues - please come to the tent for assistance.
