Tolland Conservation Commission

Tolland Conservation Commission The Tolland Conservation Commission has been charged to conserve Tolland’s Open Space Conservation Areas (listed here).

The Conservation Commission was created on August 25, 1998 by resolution 03-40 with an advisory function on open space issues. Its current mission includes research, maintaining an inventory of open space areas, development of conservation education programs, evaluation and proposal for open space acquisition, and oversight of the Town’s Conservation areas. The Conservation Commission was formed p

ursuant to Section 131-a of the Connecticut General Statutes. The Commission consists of seven regular members and two alternate members who are appointed by the Town Manager to serve two year terms.

Mountain laurel at Palmer Kendall Mountain Conservation Area. On a few shrubs, the buds have opened, but for the most part, they are just budded. It will be truly spectacular when they are in full-bloom, especially on the overlook trail.

Looks like a banner year for our native mountain laurel. Some of our conservation areas including Shafran, Palmer Kendall and King have mountain laurel. The red trail at Crandall Park also has a large grove. The next two weeks or so should be prime time.
