🚨 Is Ohio shifting vital funds away from the students who need them most? 🚨

Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) is sounding the alarm on proposed changes to how Ohio handles federal education funding. While "local flexibility" sounds good on paper, the reality of these proposed ESSA waivers could deeply impact low-income and English Learner students.
Here is what’s at stake:
📉 Accountability Drop: Slashing the weight of English Language Progress in school ratings from 30 points down to just 5.
💸 Diluted Funding: Opening up Title I-A funds to schools with less poverty, spreading critical resources too thin.
⚠️ Lost Guardrails: Consolidating Title III funding into a single stream, risking the dedicated support Ohio’s 80,000+ English Learners rely on.

We cannot let flexibility come at the expense of equity.

This program will cover key constitutional rights, including due process protections, and review recent changes in Ohio law that may impact students—especially those in vulnerable populations such as children with disabilities, those experiencing housing insecurity, immigrants, and LGBTQIA+ youth. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of how federal and state laws help prevent discrimination and ensure equal access to education.
