Happy National Coming Out Day!

Your identity is yours to share on your terms, in your own time, if you choose. Coming out is a deeply personal decision, and no one should feel pressured to do so until they feel safe and comfortable. Many of us know firsthand that “coming out” is hardly ever a singular event. Rather, these are conversations we continue to have throughout our lives. Wherever you are in your life, know that you are valid, and worthy of love.

The lives of transgender people should not be used as bargaining chips for political advantage.

To provoke fear within a group that has already been targeted in order to gain political advantage is both cruel and irresponsible, and such behavior is unacceptable on either side of the political spectrum. We oppose this kind of rhetoric no matter who puts it forward.

Scapegoating trans people does nothing to help the American people. It does not lower grocery bills, make housing affordable, or help families access health care. It fuels division and puts real people in harm’s way.

Transgender friends and family have come under constant attack at all levels of government and should be given understanding, support, and the right to live their lives without their dignity being questioned.

We expect leaders to address community problems without pointing fingers based on who someone is; everyone's basic dignity must always be respected.

To refer to trans people's existence as 'transgender ideology' is to turn real people into something that should be feared. All that trans people ask for is the basic human rights which everyone is entitled to. Trans people just the same access to education, safety, opportunity, and legal protections as every person in America. That is all, nothing more and nothing less. Transgender students should be allowed to learn and to belong in their schools and their dignity must not be exploited for political gain.
