We're highlighting our award winners from Toledo Rotary 2026 Awards Night.

The Top Engagement Award goes to Mark Urrutia, who showed up everywhere this year... committee meetings, Coffees and Happy Hours, Rotaract meetings as their advisor, board meetings, and multiple days.

That kind of consistent presence is the heartbeat of our club.

Thank you, Mark!

The Rotary Club of Toledo mourns the passing of longtime member John "Jack" T. Rogers, who died at the remarkable age of 99 and a half. What a life it was.

Jack joined our club in 1976 and remained a member for nearly four decades. A World War II veteran, he went on to build a career as an executive in Toledo's banking industry.

But those who knew him through Rotary remember something simpler and just as meaningful... how much he loved showing up each week to sit with the same circle of friends, year after year.

His obituary captures him beautifully: "His life stands as a reminder that the true measure of success is found not in personal achievement, but in service to others."

It is hard to imagine a truer summary of a Rotarian.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 22 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo. A funeral service follows on Monday, June 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church, 4225 Sylvania Ave.

As Rotarians, we surround one another with care and fellowship, even in the most difficult moments. Please keep the entire Rogers family in your thoughts and prayers.

We're celebrating the incredible people who make Toledo Rotary a special place.

First up, our Leadership Award winner and Club President, Scot Hinshaw. Scot guided our club through 36 Monday luncheons, 12 board meetings, and our Transformational Focus on Pre-K Preparedness, all while balancing a demanding career as an employment lawyer at Shumaker.

He leads with service, connection, and genuine care for this community... and it shows in everything he does.

Thank you, Scot. 👏

The Place We Call Home: Statewide Housing Insights, Local Impact

Affordable housing remains the #1 need in our community, our state, and our nation. On June 22, Toledo Rotary pairs key state-level housing data with what we are seeing right here at home, highlighting the trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping where and how we live.

Matthew Klesta of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland will share statewide housing insights, followed by a panel of local leaders from Fair Housing Center for Rights & Research, the Lucas County Land Bank, Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, and ProMedica, who will discuss the real-time impact these issues are having in our neighborhoods.

Together, this conversation underscores why housing matters and why it is essential to our community's future.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Rotarian and Past President Walt Churchill at the age of 97.

Walt became a Toledo Rotarian in 1958 and held a perfect attendance streak for many decades. Service Above Self resonated with him through and through, fitting for a United States Marine Veteran. He served as our Club President from 1984-1985.

These photos capture two moments from his dedication to Rotary. The first is from October of 2019, when we launched the 1912 Fellow giving level for the Toledo Rotary Club Foundation, where Walt shared the stage with fellow Past President Dick Anderson for a wonderful discussion about their leadership and more. The second shows Walt passing the gavel at the end of his presidency to incoming President Roger Rummel.

Our hearts are with the entire Churchill family, including family, friends, and the many beloved employees at their locations, as they navigate this difficult time.

Toledo Rotary welcomes Jason Graven and Dr. Heather Vincil of Task Force 20, a veteran-founded nonprofit based in Toledo dedicated to improving the mental and physical well-being of U.S. military veterans through fitness, community, and purpose.

Jason, an Army veteran and founder of Task Force 20, established the organization in 2016 after witnessing the challenges many veterans face following military service. Since then, Task Force 20 has supported hundreds of veterans through gym memberships, personal training, community events, and programs designed to combat PTSD and depression while fostering meaningful connections.

Joining him is Dr. Heather Vincil, an Army veteran and passionate advocate for veterans' health and well-being. Throughout her career in behavioral health and higher education, Heather has worked tirelessly to improve access to care, strengthen community resources, and support veterans as they pursue education, employment, and healthier lives. tf20.org/

What makes a community stronger? For Angie Jones, it starts with the family businesses that call Northwest Ohio home.

At Monday's meeting, the Director of the UToledo Family Business Center reminded us that the success of a family business reaches far beyond its own walls.

Thank you for the powerful reminder that investing in family business is investing in Toledo itself.
