The Fair Housing Center is closed today, October 12 in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day.

As we pause our operations, we want to acknowledge that our work in northwest Ohio takes place on the ancestral and unceded territories of Indigenous nations. This region, including the Maumee River Valley and the Great Black Swamp, was once home to the Ottawa, Wyandot, Erie, Kickapoo, and Seneca peoples, alongside a network of nations including the Miami, Potawatomi, Lenape, Ojibwe, Peoria, Sauk, and Shawnee.

We recognize the painful history of forced removal that displaced these communities from Ohio. Today, we honor their enduring legacies and continued contributions to our broader culture and ecosystem.

We will reopen with regular business hours on Tuesday, October 13.

The Fair Housing Center had a fun and productive day volunteering with Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity today. Working on the organization’s first module home, we helped install outside siding on several sides of the home. Thanks for a great team building experience!

Have you recently looked for a place to rent in Lucas or Wood County?

We’re interested in learning about experiences where people may have been treated unfairly while looking for, applying for, or renting housing. Fair housing laws protect people from discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, s*x (including pregnancy, s*xual orientation, and gender identity), disability, and familial status (having children or being pregnant). If you believe a housing provider treated you differently, denied you housing, changed the terms or requirements, made a concerning statement, or otherwise treated you unfairly because of one of these characteristics, we want to hear about your experience. You do not need to know whether what happened was illegal discrimination to share your experience.
