This Wednesday is Denim Day.
Denim Day started in Italy when an 18 year old young woman was picked up by her 45 year old driving instructor for her first lesson, but instead the instructor drove her to an isolated road and r**ed her. She came forward and reported and he was convicted but appealed. The appeal went all the way to the Italian Supreme Court who overturned the conviction and released the perpetrator. The Justice’s released a statement that the victim had been wearing very tight jeans and that she must have helped her attacker remove them, and therefore, consent was implied.

Women in the Italian Parliament were outraged and took to the steps of the Court wearing jeans in protest and as news spread women around the world joined the protest from their home countries. Denim Day was born.
We continue Denim Day in visibility, in solidarity, and in support. Visit ywcanwo.org to learn more about supporting the YW and the only R**e Crisis Center in Lucas County.

Our friends at OAESV helped gather these questions to think about when making the decision whether to share your experience. The reasons for disclosing sexual violence, or not, are unique and personal for each individual. If you decide to share your experience, you deserve support and love, but it is impossible to predict how loved ones will respond. Consider these questions before disclosing to prepare and support yourself.

Meet your Advocacy Team!
Say hi to Tyese Rosemond who is the Victim Services Coordinator for the YWCA of Northwest Ohio.

Tyese - Ty for short - is the supervisor over the R**e Crisis services. Ty provides direct support to staff and trained volunteers, fills in on openings for our 24 hour schedule when advocates are off, and provides direct support to survivors when their advocate is on vacation or in training. Plus Ty is the support the Director leans on ensure operations are running smooth. What an advocate! Say hi to Ty sometime :)

Meet your advocacy team! The YWCA of Northwest Ohio’s R**e Crisis Center is overseen by Rachael Gardner who is the Director.

Day to day Rachael writes grants, reports, and over-sees operations that ‘keep the program running’. That includes staff development, program development, and fiscal management. It also means staying true to best practices. All in all Rach’s job is department leadership.
