Local Members,
The members of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra are currently in negotiations with their parent organization, the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance (DPPA), for a new collective bargaining agreement. Recently however, even while negotiations were underway, the DPPA announced the elimination of some of the orchestra’s performing series for the 2026-27 season, as well as a reduction in the number of performances in the remaining series. The leadership of DPPA states these “structural adjustments” are needed, “. . . for the sake of long-term sustainability of the performing arts in Dayton.” The Philharmonic players see these moves as unwarranted and contend that any shortfall is due to mismanagement and poor budget decisions.
More information about the situation in Dayton can be found at the players website: https://www.musiciansofdpo.com/
The Philharmonic players are asking for our support in this time of need by signing an online petition, which can be found at this link: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/protect-the-arts-in-dayton?source=direct_link&
The Executive Board of the Toledo Federation of Musicians strongly urges our members to sign this petition. The Dayton Philharmonic is very similar in size and budget to the Toledo Symphony, and the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is structured much like our own Live Arts Toledo. We also have a connection in that a former Toledo Symphony member, Zulfiya Bashirova, is currently the concertmaster there. The Toledo Federation of Musicians has a history of strongly supporting other orchestras in their time of need, so please consider adding your name to this important petition.
