Who says a self-portrait has to begin with paper and a pencil?
At Toledo Day Nursery, we invite children to explore the many ways they can represent what they see, feel, and understand about themselves. Through loose parts, natural materials, and open-ended invitations, children can look in the mirror and bring their reflections to life in ways that are uniquely their own.
Because self-expression doesn’t have to look a certain way. Sometimes, it looks like a drawing. Sometimes, it looks like sticks, stones, and found treasures carefully arranged to say, “This is me.” When we offer children more ways to express themselves, we open the door to more ways of seeing the world.
