It was a bitter farewell as two of the young ladies from my teen group are moving to Atlanta. Natiah and Naveh will be missed. We had a fun farewell at Dave and Buster. It will be 10 years in 2027 since Groomed for Greatness was established and I cannot believe how the girls who have been in the program have grown. Their card made me shed a tear as it sometimes feels like I am not able to reach them all and have the impact I planned but this card makes it worth it.

Celebrating Black Excellence: Natiah Nelson

This Black History Month, we are beyond proud to spotlight one of our own — Natiah Nelson, a former Groomed for Greatness member who continues to shine as a student‑athlete at DePaul University!

🏀 Natiah has made an inspiring impact on the DePaul Blue Demons women’s basketball team as a guard, showcasing her talent, drive, and leadership on the court. During her freshman season she appeared in 26 games, made multiple starts, and scored her first collegiate points while continuing to grow each game. This year she earned the Irene Kipe Schneider Memorial Scholarship — a testament to her hard work and dedication both on and off the court. 

Before DePaul, Natiah was a dominant force in high school basketball, scoring over 1,000 career points, earning All‑State, All‑District, and All‑City honors, and leading her team to multiple state championships. 

From Perrysburg, Ohio to Chicago, Natiah continues to represent excellence, resilience, and leadership — inspiring girls and young women everywhere to pursue their dreams relentlessly.

We are SO proud of you, Natiah! Keep soaring, keep leading, and keep shining.

Congratulations to Dr. Tonya Baldwin on becoming the first African American Woman to become Chief of Staff at St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio. She is not only Black History but an inspiration to young girls that look like her.
