Happy Labor Day from the Toledo NewsGuild! We marched in today's parade among many other unionized workers who keep Toledo running each day. The Blade works because we do!

Now's a better time than ever to be a part of the movement and join us in Toledo's annual Labor Day Parade!

We would love it if Guild members past and present (including retirees!) could join us Monday morning to show support and help us spread the word on important union issues — and the importance of preserving local news.

Please wear your Toledo NewsGuild T-shirt and/or red scarves, if you have one. We will be starting at the corner of N. Summit Street and Monroe Street. You can park in the Blade parking lot, but there is also parking available at various surface lots and garages throughout downtown.

We are #25 in the AFL-CIO lineup, which will be along Monroe Street between Huron and St. Clair streets. The parade starts at 9 a.m., please arrive by 8:45 a.m. if you're planning to participate. ✊

Toledo NewsGuild workers at The Blade voted down the company-proposed contract 46-25 yesterday, with 89 percent participation.

The issue at heart for many members was the company’s proposal that could pave the way to whittle our union down to zero members. Allowing the company to outsource work to AI, freelancers, managers or “any source” was not acceptable in a contract, and this result shows it.

We have offered to resume negotiations as early as Tuesday.

After, we'll head to Earnest Brew Works on Central to commiserate over the preventable and foreseeable death of one of Toledo’s most iconic buildings.

For nearly — but not quite — one hundred years, N. Superior St. housed generations of Blade employees. Let’s give her the send off she deserves.

It's about time that the company took the safety concerns of its employees seriously. Tragically, the company allowed a building of such historical significance to Toledo to fall into extreme disrepair.
