Calling all Disability Studies Students, Alums, and Allies! Join us for homecoming this weekend!

We will be hosting, with our friends and colleagues in Sociology and Anthropology, a pancake breakfast before Saturday's parade!

You are invited to join us for a Pancake Breakfast (aka flapjacks) on Saturday Morning, October 10th starting at 8:30 am as we join in some of the Homecoming Day activities.

We will be in the Sociology/Anthropology offices (University Hall 2520).

You, your friends, and your family are welcome to swing by our Department that morning before we head up to Bancroft to watch the Homecoming Parade (starts at 10:00 am). If you have a lawn chair/blanket, we recommend bringing it along (we will have only a few extras).

To ensure we can cater to all, we will ask that you RSVP here: https://doodle.com/sign-up-sheet/participate/12b0b7d7-800d-4352-af2f-8ce29dcc1919/select

Rain or shine, we are having some pancakes. We hope you can make it!

Congratulations to Disability Studies alum Eric Salvati, who just had a paper co-authored with Dr. Monteleone published in the Ohio Journal of Public Health. The paper, "Disability and Experiences of Health Care in Lucas County, Ohio" explores the results of a study Eric conducted while completing his undergrad DST degree. Check it out!

Introduction: Americans with disabilities face a number of barriers to accessing appropriate, respectful, and timely health care, but there remains limited research collecting their perspectives and lived experiences. This paper presents the results of an exploratory mixed-methods study conducted in...

Just wrapped up day 3 of our Inclusive Performing Arts Camp! In addition to writing and starring in their own show, these middle and high schoolers get to learn from our UToledo theatre experts. On Tuesday, Professor Stephen Sakowski gave a demonstration on lighting, and today, Assistant Lecturer Yetunde Akitikori showed us how costumes, makeup and hair can transform actors.

Want to see what we've been up to? Come to our open showcase on Friday at 11 am at the Center for Performing Arts to catch the world premier of our original play, "What a Zoo!"

It's Inclusive Postsecondary Education Day! celebrates college opportunities for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities so we thought it would be a great time to honor our Disability Studies Program interns from the last several semesters, Graham, Ana, and Jocelyn! All three are part of the Toledo Transition (T2) program which provides students with IDD college opportunities to enhance social, academic and vocational skills.

Our DST interns have contributed a ton to our program, from digitizing our student library to planning our student parties - thank you, Graham, Ana, and Jocelyn!

Special congrats to Ana and Jocelyn who will also be graduating this weekend!

Learn more about T2 here: https://www.utoledo.edu/hhs/toledo-transition/
