At PROPEL, we connect predominantly Arab and South Asian young adults with professional mentors across the Toledo area to provide guidance, support and networking. When young adults have access to a greater world, they can make the best decisions for their futures. We are collectively building stronger communities in which we live. PROPEL was conceptualized in 2009 by Hussien Shousher, CEO of GEM
Inc., as a mentoring program for young adults in the greater Toledo community who come from immigrant families and who face challenges of discrimination, bias, and other economic and social difficulties. The goal of PROPEL is to prepare these young adults for the future by connecting them with trained, committed mentors who are successful role models in the community. This page is maintained and moderated by Brittany Burns, PROPEL Program Manager. What We Do
We seek mentors throughout our community who are willing to share their knowledge and experience
We train these mentors to fill important gaps in the lives of adults by offering encouragement, education and guidance
We identify students and young adults in our community with the greatest need for support, based on recommendations by teachers, counselors and parents
We pair each student or young adult with a mentor whose unique experiences and strengths suit the needs of the young adult
We help students or young adults prepare for, achieve, and sustain successful careers
