Hello, St. Lucas Gardeners,
The water tap has been turned on (finally!)
The water barrel is full. I replaced the broken container hook with a (much!) sturdier one. Several beds have been at least partially planted. I will be in the Garden Saturday, planting and fertilizing and mulching. I will bring over the first dozen bags of
mulch so that we can mulch immediately after planting. I have alfalfa pellets for fertilizer. They're organic, rich in N,K,P and
minerals. They can either be soaked in water and incorporated into the beds, or they can be sprinkled on dry and watered in.
One pound of pellets will fertilizer 100 Sq feet of bed, so approx. 1/3 pound for a 4' x 8' garden bed. I have a container that
measures the amount needed for one bed and a 50 lb bag of pellets, so we're in good shape! See you in the garden.

Holy Toledo! It's already time for another edition of Throwback Toledo!
This week, we're heading to Walbridge Avenue in Toledo's Old South End.
The black and white photo of St. Lucas Lutheran Church was taken sometime in the 1970's. Online research shows its Sandusky limestone sanctuary was built in 1911 by "Pfaender Bros." The congregation was reportedly founded in 1886 to serve German-speaking Lutherans living in the area.
The color photo, taken in 2026 by Cameraman Kevin, shows the sanctuary looks mostly the same, except for that addition on the east side of the building.
