🌍 Introducing Aida: Homelands 🌍

Before Aida takes the stage, join Toledo Opera for a special evening exploring the culture, music, food, and history of Ethiopia; and the homeland at the heart of Verdi’s iconic opera.

On October 11 at 6 PM, Aida: Homelands will transform the beautiful spaces of TolHouse into an evening of discovery, connection, and celebration.

🎓 Hear from musicologist Dr. Ryan Ebright as he explores Aida, Ethiopia’s role in the story, and the historical and cultural context surrounding the opera

An internationally acclaimed soprano, educator, and arts advocate, Merritt-Grant brings a lifetime of artistic excellence and leadership to Toledo Opera.

Throughout her remarkable career, she has performed on many of the world's most prestigious stages, including the Metropolitan Opera, collaborated with legendary conductors, and inspired generations of singers as Emeritus Professor of Voice at Bowling Green State University.

Her passion for the performing arts, education, and community makes her a wonderful addition to our Board of Directors, and we are honored to have her help guide Toledo Opera's future.

The Toledo Opera Guild's Opening Meeting for the 2026-2027 season is slated for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at the Sylvania Branch Library. Members will learn about all the exciting events on the Guild calendar and opportunities to support our beloved Toledo Opera.

Travel to the highlands of Ethiopia with the Toledo Opera Guild’s annual Bakeless Bake Sale, inspired by Toledo Opera’s fall 2026 production of Verdi’s masterpiece, "Aida."

For generations, the Toledo Opera Guild has proudly provided meals for the cast, chorus, and production team during rehearsal week, offering nourishment and hospitality as artists prepare to bring opera to life on stage.

This season presents a special challenge. Verdi’s "Aida" features one of opera’s greatest choruses, meaning more artists, more rehearsals, and more dinners to serve. Fortunately, the Guild is ready to rise to the occasion.

Rather than baking pies and cookies, we invite you to support our efforts by making a donation inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Ethiopia, the homeland of Princess Aida. Your gift will help provide rehearsal week meals for the entire company while celebrating the culture and history that inspire this beloved opera.

For every $10 donated, you will receive one entry into a drawing for two guests to enjoy an authentic Ethiopian feast at the renowned Blue Nile Restaurant in Ann Arbor as part of a special "Go with the Guild!" outing in October.

In the middle of a heatwave, Toledo Opera Guild members found a fun way to chill out and show off some patriotic spirit with a Tip the Opera luncheon July 1 at Assembly Downtown Kitchen & Bar. With a diverse menu, friendly staff, and artwork paying homage to the Toledo area's American vehicle assembly line history, it was a delightful way to socialize and offer a little "gratuity" for Toledo Opera.

Tip the Opera events are casual gatherings at local establishments where attendees celebrate a festive theme, order off the menu, and collect donations to bolster the Guild's mission of supporting Toledo Opera. The next one is Booooozy Brunch on Oct. 31 with of course a Halloween theme!
