Reach Out and Read Northwest Ohio is housed within the Pediatrics department of the College of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Toledo. Every year UToledo holds a Rocket Forward Day of Giving, of which Reach Out and Read is one of the designees.

The Reach Out and Read program is a powerful investment in our children’s future. By providing brand-new books, free of charge, to children receiving wellness checks between the ages of 6 months and 5 years, the program ensures that families have the tools they need to build strong early literacy skills from the very beginning of life. What makes Reach Out and Read especially impactful is its integration into pediatric care. Trusted healthcare providers encourage parents and caregivers to read aloud with their children, reinforcing the importance of bonding, learning, and healthy development. Donor support makes this program possible. Donations go towards purchasing books and supporting the Reach Out and Read program, meaning every contribution helps place books directly into the hands of children, fostering a love of reading, supporting school readiness, and creating brighter outcomes for our community’s youngest learners. Even $5 helps as that's 2 books for children within our local community. Together, we can help ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive—one book at a time.

In honor of Week of the Young Child, please consider purchasing a book (or several!) from this Amazon Wishlist. Having taught and worked with young children for decades, the books on this list are ones that I know young children love! Books will be delivered directly to my office and then I will personally deliver them to pediatricians throughout Northwest Ohio to ensure that young children can benefit from an early start of loving literacy!
