Cherry Street Mission Cherry Street Mission creates a better tomorrow for the lives of people experiencing homelessness and poverty. People don't need a handout; they need a hand-up.
(278)

Community support goes to invaluable resources like housing, meals, job training, and so much more. Every day, we show up to show others that the fight to end homelessness, hunger, and poverty can't stop. Because every day, someone we might know slips into hopelessness. That someone is a neighbor, a friend, a soul, and a part of all of us. This empowering belief has shaped every aspect of Cherry Street Mission. From serving daily meals to providing warm beds to connecting individuals to life-changing resources, our relentless quest to create health and community sustainability forges ahead with every sunrise and sunset. Jesus Christ never wavered. He carried on to carry others. Through him, we are driven and inspired to champion the eradication of poverty everywhere. Join us. All of us can be provisioners of hope for Northwest Ohio and beyond. A better tomorrow starts. here.

Today is World Homeless Day. But the conversation shouldn't last just one day.

This October, Cherry Street Mission will be answering some of the questions that people are often afraid to ask.

Ann Ebbert, CEO at Cherry Street Mission and other community leaders will talk honestly about homelessness—the questions people ask, the assumptions we make, the complexities we don't always see, and the ways each of us can help.

Some questions may be uncomfortable. Some answers aren't simple.

But understanding has to begin somewhere.

Why are more people experiencing homelessness?

It's a simple question without a simple answer.

Rising housing costs, limited affordable housing, loss of income, unexpected expenses, health challenges and other circumstances can all play a role—and often, several barriers are happening at once.

Ann Ebbert, CEO of Cherry Street Mission, joins Bonnie Mehnke, CEO of Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission to talk about the complexities of homelessness.

What questions do you have about homelessness? Join us this October as we seek understanding together!

💙 A Be The Bridge Volunteer Shoutout! 💙

Behind every successful event are the people who quietly jump in and help make all the little details happen — and we are so grateful for these three!

A special thank-you to Sister Karel Schwartz and Sister Suzanne Phillips from the Sisters of Notre Dame, who helped assemble our Garlic Expressions giveaways for Be The Bridge. And to Jean Adair, who not only helped us assemble our registration materials, but came back to help disassemble everything afterward, too!

Whether it's assembling giveaways, preparing registration materials or helping with the many details that happen behind the scenes, these acts of service make a difference.

Sister Karel, Sister Suzanne and Jean — thank you for sharing your time, your hands and your hearts with Cherry Street Mission. We are so grateful for you! ❤️

Every month, we go down to Cherry Street Mission to connect with people on ground zero..folks who may need support the most. We listen, we provide resources, and when it’s needed, we offer immediate help right there, in real time.

Being of service to others isn’t just what we do,it’s what keeps us grounded. It reminds us that recovery is more than overcoming; it’s also about purpose. And that mindset directly correlates to a lifetime of recovery, staying connected, staying compassionate, choosing to show up.

MAKE US YOUR HANDS

Prayer calls us not only to see the needs of our neighbors, but to ask God how He might use us to meet them.

This month, we pray for hearts that understand, hands that serve and lives that reflect the love of Christ to those experiencing poverty, pain and hardship.

May we be willing vessels of His compassion—offering daily bread, dignity, understanding, peace and joy to our brothers and sisters.

Will you join us in prayer? 🙏❤️

🏠 Supportive Housing is coming soon.

What does that mean—and why does it matter for our neighbors experiencing chronic homelessness?

Mission Point will bring 65 one-bedroom apartments to our community, providing more than a place to live. Supportive Housing combines stable, affordable housing with access to the ongoing support and services individuals may need to remain housed and move toward greater health and stability.

For some of our neighbors, barriers such as disability, chronic health needs or long-term homelessness can make traditional paths to housing especially difficult. Supportive Housing creates another important pathway forward.

🎥 Hear from Cherry Street Mission CEO Ann Ebbert as she explains what Supportive Housing is, who it can serve and why Mission Point is an important next step in our community’s response to homelessness.

A better tomorrow starts here. 💙

MYTH vs. FACT: Homelessness

No one’s story can be summed up by a single circumstance—or a single assumption.

The path to homelessness is often complicated. A lost job. A relationship ending. An unexpected expense. A struggle with addiction or mental health. A lack of affordable housing. Sometimes several of these things happen at once, and a person who once felt stable suddenly finds themselves in crisis.

At Cherry Street Mission, we don’t believe a person should be defined by the circumstances that brought them through our doors. We meet people where they are, learn their story and walk alongside them as they take steps toward greater health, stability and wholeness.

Because behind the word homelessness is a person. A neighbor. A story worth knowing.

There’s more to the story. ❤️🍒

You have something to give. 💛

Your time. Your talents. Your willingness to simply show up.

At Cherry Street Mission, volunteers are an important part of the work we do every day. Whether you’re serving a meal, helping in our warehouse, spending time in the library, or lending a hand wherever you’re needed, your presence matters.

Ready to serve? The first step is attending a Volunteer Orientation, offered several times each month. Orientations help you learn more about Cherry Street Mission, our guests, and the many ways you can get involved.

Come serve. Come connect. Come see what happens when we show up for our neighbors.

Because sometimes the greatest gift you can give is your time. ❤️

Sometimes, faithfulness means continuing to show up even when we don’t see the outcome we hoped for.

After a day of healing and serving others, Jesus withdrew to pray—even as the crowds were searching for Him and expecting more. He wasn’t chasing success. He was pursuing faithfulness.

At Cherry Street Mission, we want to see our neighbors experience healing, stability and flourishing. But their success is not a condition of our faithfulness. We are called to walk alongside them, to keep showing up and, when they stumble, to welcome them back.

This , may we be reminded that faithfulness isn’t always about what we accomplish. Sometimes, it’s simply about being willing to show up, love well and keep walking alongside our neighbor—even when success isn’t guaranteed. ❤️
