So today I found myself at Calvary Cemetery in Toledo for the funeral of a friend I worked with in TV news.

It took a little bit of walking, but I found this marker for a 30-plus year ISMA Toledo Lodge #9 member.

On what was supposed to be his last trip before retiring, so he could take care of his ailing wife. It didn't happen.

Said a prayer fof both while here. 🙏🙏🙏

The International Ship Masters' Association is a voluntary organization of dues-paying licensed professional mariners and others associated with the maritime community of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway.

Founded in 1886 as a benevolent organization, we have adapted our needs along the way to provide educational opportunities and to allow Great Lakes masters a voice in the formation of safety and navigational rules and regulations.

Together we are working to help create a safer and more informed waterway system.

Toledo Lodge #9 meets regularly from January to April. Our membership is compromised licensed mariners, however we have several associate members and welcome anyone in a maritime-related field or with an interest in Great Lakes maritime history to join us.
