Reservations for community garden plots will be open 1 April. Weather permitting the garden will be open 15 April. Initial reservations will be for 1 plot. After 1 May, plot owners may reserve additional plots. Reservations, garden rules etc... can be found on the Tofte Township's website. Happy gardening!

Garden time is coming soon! Community Garden plots will be available through the Tofte Township starting 1 April. Community members will be permitted to reserve 1 garden plot. The gates will open 15 April and unreserved plots will be available 15 May to existing plot owners. In the meantime, stay warm and post here is you are looking for local seed swapping opportunities!

Yesterday, Cook County Master Gardeners and UMN Extension Coordinator, Sarah Waddle, visited our community garden. What a treat! We discussed tomato infestations by probable tomato fruit worms and how to plant and maintain the three sisters. If you are unaware, the three sisters is the traditional Native American co-planting of corn, beans and squash. A great example of this approach can be seen at Grand Portage at the monument. Our visitors were able to taste Perilla, a leafy green used frequently in Korean and Japanese cooking. Thanks Sarah and the Master Gardeners program!

The growing season is well on its way. Most of the plots have been rented and folks are getting their veg in the ground. The Tofte Community Garden strives to provide the infrastructure to grow nutritious organic sources of food while also enhancing our sense of community. Watch our plots grow over the summer and fall. And enjoy in our bounty.
