Here we go!

We teased something new on Monday and it's finally ready for reveal! Check out the newly redesigned LinnCountyIowa.gov!

Finding County services and information is now faster and easier with the launch of the redesigned LinnCountyIowa.gov. The updated website features a fresh new look, improved navigation, enhanced accessibility, and quicker access to the services residents use most.

The new homepage includes a service directory that helps you find popular services with fewer clicks. You can also easily view upcoming public meetings and sign up for email or text alerts, newsletters, and other updates to stay informed about County news and events.

We've also updated the Linn County Conservation and Linn County Public Health sections with new homepages designed to make it easier to find programs, services, and resources.

The redesign was guided by website analytics and public feedback to ensure the site better meets the needs of Linn County residents.

Something golden is hiding in our parks… and you’re invited to find it! This summer we’re launching a new series — the Golden Acorn Hunt! Each month, one park will be home to the hidden golden acorn. We’ll release weekly clues on the event page to help you narrow down its secret location. Find it, snap a photo, and submit it by emailing the photo to [email protected] to be entered into a drawing for a prize basket!

Clue #1: Go where curious minds explore the outdoors and animals are some of the teachers. This Linn County Conservation park is also home to six sites on the National Register of Historic Places.

More clues weekly to help you find it - check our events page: https://www.mycountyparks.com/County/Linn/Park/Wickiup-Hill-Learning-Center/Events/29301/Golden-Acorn-Hunt

Find the golden acorn (don't move it), snap a photo of the acorn at the location, and send it to [email protected] now through June 30 to be entered in the month's prize basket drawing. We'll contact the winner in early July.
Good luck!

The first graders who were on a field trip this week said they thought it was summer. Although the heat makes it feel that way, we still have some weeks before we officially pass over that seasonal change. What doesn’t change is that with one of the big three holidays behind us, people begin playing in our local ponds, lakes, streams and rivers at higher rates than the rest of the year.

We always need to stress that as you do so it is always important to wear your life jacket and a good pair of water shoes to protect yourself. These items might seem unneeded, but it is easy to overlook how important these protective items are in keeping people safe. We never hear about how many folks are saved by wearing a PFD (Personal Flotation Device), but we can show that that one item rarely is in use by those folks who do drown. Please wear the PFD if you are going to be playing in and around the water, it cannot save you if you don't put it on!

Saturday, May 30, 9 a.m.-noon at Wickiup Hill Learning Center

Help us celebrate the vital importance of wetlands to our ecological, economic, and social health. All are invited for a hands-on wetland exploration to discover what critters are living in or around the water near Wickiup Hill Learning Center. As part of a water quality assessment, participants will use nets to catch frogs, crawdads, snails, and insects hatching throughout the wetlands. Linn County Conservation Naturalists will help you identify critters and will have microscopes on hand for viewing and identifying samples as well. Also be sure to check out the on-site exhibits, displays, and activities provided by partner organizations. Come and go from 9 a.m. – noon. Free, no registration required.
