Save the date! Railfest 2026
Labor Day Weekend: September 4, 5, 6, 2026

120 days from now, Steamtown National Historic Site will host one of the most anticipated rail events of the year, Railfest 2026.

Baldwin Locomotive Works No. 26 is already out on the rails today, building momentum toward a milestone year in railroading, including the nationally anticipated Big Boy Reunion at Steamtown. (That event is separate from Railfest and will take place during its own scheduled visit earlier in the season.)

Railfest brings it all together with steam and historic train operations, rare visiting equipment, shop demonstrations, behind the scenes access, ranger programs, live music, exhibits and family activities across the entire site.

This year also marks America’s 250th anniversary, 200 years of railroading in America, 110 years of the National Park Service, 40 years of Steamtown and 10 years since Baldwin Locomotive Works No. 26 returned to steam.

If you care about railroading, history or simply want to glimpse something you will not see every day, save the date now.

Tobyhanna Update:

Today the crew spent the full day across many to-do items. With a good size team, we were able to tackle a lot of projects or at least get started.

To start, pressure washing the station has been on the list since snow has melted. Today a huge chunk of that was accomplished. Along with outdoor work started the repainting of our wooden picnic tables. Some have rotted wood which needed to be replaced, that was also done. While on the inside we got to work on the ticket office desks, specifically the handles. All of them have been removed and are receiving a polishing and paint. Now a big one- the baggage wagon. Work has been fully completed today with removing all of the rotted wood. The full deck and a few other pieces will be completely rebuilt. Once we have that done, painting will begin.

With all of this work happening, along with other work (members have been at the station working for 3-5 times a week recently) we are preparing for our big opening day. Opening day for the season will be on Saturday May 23rd, from 12pm-4pm. All of this and more is not possible without all of our support and dedicated members. Join today! There’s a lot more coming from the PRHS soon!
