Last weekend Crew 940 helped running some stations at Fall Family Camp here at Camp Minsi. We also held our lunch fundraiser out of the kitchen to build up our account and plan with the new crew officers some exciting activities for the future.

While Crew 940 was at Philmont Scout Ranch on top of Tooth of Time, we did something really special. We announced this year's Crew Officers right after sunrise with our Crew flag and past President Sam VanNorman swearing in the new Crew 940 President Collin Paone.

We held voting by ballot during summer camp with Crew members during week 6 and took the results with us. This was truly a special moment for the three officers present, and a surprise added with the Crew flag not known by anyone on the trek until Crew 940 Advisor John Buz got everyone's attention and mentioned he had a surprise for everyone.

Crew 940 / 803-7D successfully completed Philmont 2026 and all made it home safe early this morning. With multiple flight delays in Atlanta, we all made it home to our families.

We started as a crew, but grew into a family at the end. Memories, laughter, struggles, challenges, and more is what brought this family together. We enjoyed our trek and our Experience at Philmont Scout Ranch. Only us can say what we experienced, and it will live with us throughout our days.

Importantly, we thank those who helped us along the way through the past two years of all the hard work in fundraising. We want to shout out the multiple units, donors, everyone who participated in our multiple fundraising to make over $8,000 for this experience. This money helped purchase airfare, driving transportation to and from airport/Philmont, some camping crew gear, stay and play package for Philmont Training Center housing, $100 for each of the five scouts to buy awesome gifts at the Tooth of Time traders, and a round of cold root beers. This kept the overall costs down for the trip, leaving only the participant fee for families to pay. We sincerely Thank You.

Yesterday Crew 940 / 803-7D left base camp and walked over to Philmont Training Center for our last full day here on the ranch. With free time all day, we started our morning with breakfast and took a tour of the Villa philamonte. We had lunch at noon and wondered over to the National Scouting Museum which is based here at Philmont.

The crew one last time walked into base camp to get some items branded and shop Tooth of Time traders. Base camp was a ghost town as it seemed we were truly the last crew there for end of season. You could see the staff watering plants, wiping windows, leaf blowing and more. We ended our night with a great dinner at the historic St. James Hotel in Cimarron thanks to Mr. Paone. The bus shuttle took us back to the ranch to get ready for bed.

This morning at 7:30 we loaded up our gear in the transport van and headed to Denver for our first flight out.

Yesterday morning Crew 940 / 803-7D woke up at 4am to Summit the Tooth of Time at 9,003 ft elevation for sunrise. It took us roughly 45 minutes from our campsite to climb to the top. While we waited for sunrise, we ate breakfast and simply enjoyed the view. We announced the newly elected crew officers for 26'-27' season. This humble moment of victory making it to the top was simply a highlight for all that we are one day closer to ending our trek.

After we headed back to camp to pack up, we hiked on for 7 miles back to base camp to be greeted by the "You Made it" gateway. As we checked in at outfitting services for gear we had chores to complete. Crew members split up to wash pots, wash and hang tents, and preparing our package of gear for shipment at the mail room.

We ended the night at closing campfire where we participated with every crew that made it back off the trail. Highlights of the closing campfire were simple and rewarding. In a somber way, we all may find our way back here some day.

08/09/2026

Coming towards the end of our trek, Crew 940 - 803-7D left our program from Crater Lake and campsite in the morning and hiked to the next at Uracca to set up in our new campsite. We participated in a low elements course where we did team challenge games and activities. We helped each other for all to get up and over the challenge wall. In the morning we went to see the sunrise at Uracca and soon broke down camp to start up our hike.

We got to the base of the mountain from Uracca and Crew 940 was the last group this summer to use the cope climbing tower and elements before they shut it down for the season. Before we went up the revine to tooth ridge we topped off all water containers at the Stockade as we were soon to enter a dry camp.
We then hiked up to tooth ridge with its steep incline and made it in time to set up camp, make dinner, and go to bed early for sunrise on top of Tooth of Time.

All scouts and Leaders are in great spirits as we near the end.

Crew 940- Expedition 803-7D has had a busy first to days to the trek. We got dumped off from the world's famous Philmont bus tour to a location and quickly went over map/compass work. We hiked into Clark's Fork for our first day of program which included branding, cowboy action shooting and took cover for rain /hail. We then went to our campsite and set up for an early night's rest in Ponderosa Park.

The second day leaving Ponderosa Park we headed to Miners Park to participate in open face rock climbing, crate stacking, advisors coffee at 7pm and we had our last night and dinner with our Ranger Posey. The crew presented Ranger Posey with a Crew 940 patch and made him an honory member of the crew for his hard work and the relationship we started with him.

Today we woke up from our campsite within Miners Park and hit the trail to Crater Lake where the donor of Philmont had a beautiful stone log cabin built by Waite Phillips facing the tooth of time. There the crew members were able to participate in pole spar climbing. We then hit the trail after refilling water and ate lunch off the trail in a nice spot. We just entered Bear Cave campsite and set up camp.

Everyone is in great spirits, and enjoys the food. The swap boxes for food and snacks are a big hit in all areas.

Crew 940 - Expedition 803-7D had a very productive first day in base camp. After breakfast we left Philmont Training Center and moved over to base camp to officially check in. There we met our Ranger Posey who is from Saint Louis, Missouri and a 3 year Philmont Staffer.

After check in, Crew Lead Advisor Buz and Crew Youth Leader Van Norman, went to logistics for map planning. We then went to the dining hall for lunch, moved our packs over to our trailbound tents and started our shakedown process with our Ranger for gear check. We then proceeded to our crew photo at the base of Tooth of Time and went back for training.

As we ended our first night here we went to dinner, followed by more meetings/ training. All crew members attended chapel services for multiple faiths, and ending with the opening campfire whereas Crew Youth Lead Van Norman accepted our crews American Flag for the trek at the campfire.

Crew 940 is ready for tomorrow's start of the trek. Updates from this point will be limited.

Crew 940 - Expedition 803-7D has had a very productive day here at Philmont Scout Ranch and Philmont training center. We arrived last night around 8pm at the training center to quickly settle and sleep into this morning. At the beginning of our day, crew members had breakfast, settled any last fees, did our med recheck, and started our conservation project we signed up for to help pass time.

Crew members worked at the Cito Creek conservation site with two other units and some Philmont staff. We helped disperse Juniper piles, lopped, shoveled dirt and moved, making a Beaver dam to help that section of the river bed for multiple reasons.

Once Crew members got back into camp, we hiked over to base camp to tour facilities for tomorrow's official trek check in day, go shopping at tooth of time traders, and wrapping up with a cool ice cream treat at the cantina with gracious gesture bought by Mr. Kenyon.

We are all having a blast!
