The Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District (ERICD) is a non-profit, quasi-public organization that functions as a facilitator for meeting the needs of the local land user in the conservation of soil, water and other related natural resources. The Conservation District provides assistance to them through the Farm, Forest and Open Space Program, assistance with the Land Link Program, and through our partners at the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Most people see violets and think โ€œweed.โ€
Butterflies see a nursery.

Common Blue Violet (Viola sororia) is a native wildflower that supports pollinators, thrives in shade, and fills spaces where turfgrass struggles.

Sometimes the best thing for biodiversity is leaving native plants alone. ๐ŸŒฑ

We have some incredible news to share!!!

Portsmouth AgInnovation Farm , a program of the Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District, has been awarded a $104,000 grant by .

This award will fund a farm manager, strengthen farm-to-school programming, and bring us one step closer to something we've long worked toward: students growing food that lands on their school lunch trays.

AgInnovation has always been about more than farming. It's about hands-on learning, community resilience, and investing in the next generation of environmental stewards. This grant is a powerful affirmation of that mission.

We are deeply grateful to Impact100 Newport County for this transformational support, and we can't wait to show you what comes next.

Congratulations, Portsmouth AgInnovation!
