It’s been 17 days since Duggie joined the Calypso Sanctuary so time for an in depth update.
Some interesting things we discovered about the Dugster …. he does not like the vacuum cleaner, Mom’s hairdryer, or thunder. He will not go into either of the bathrooms but will go into the bedrooms and den but leaves quickly, won’t stay. He also won’t go into the laundry room into the garage so we have to use the front door when going out for walks. He likes to hang around in the great room, living room, kitchen and dog room.
He is very gentle with taking treats and bites from the dinner table. He gives lots of kisses and frequently jumps up onto Dad & Mom when they are sitting in a chair or on the couch. He loves to go on walks/gets all excited when we get his harness off the hook in the dog room. He loves to play fetch with the ball in the backyard and play tug-a-war with Dad. He gets along great with Pipifax, the cats, and the grandkids! He only barks at Grunt on morning walks, just like Buddy did and Pipifax does. Otherwise, he gets along fine with all of the other pups and their Moms/Dads.
Duggie likes to sleep on one of the dog room couches at night instead of the dog beds. Pipifax sleeps on the other couch. He pretty much sleeps through the night but usually gets up at dawn ~ 5am and looks out the window. He is eating the same food as Pipifax now and eats well. Both pups get bites from the dinner table too.
He rarely barks, even when the other neighborhood dogs are outside in their yards barking. He is bonding with Pipifax more and more each day. He has become one of the family and has fully settled into his new forever home! We are so pleased he has settled in so well. Thank you Our Companions Animal Rescue for letting us adopt Duggie.
Duggie has been on hikes with Dad on all of the trails now except Fogland Beach. We need to wait until Columbus Day as that is when Fogland Beach is open to dogs again. Pictures of recent hikes to Fort Barton, Pardon Gray Preserve, and Lafayette Rd/Sakonnet Ridge below as well as him playing in the backyard with our neighbor’s daughter’s dog Junie. He & Junie had a great time chasing the ball/each other.
Pipifax is doing fine - a little slower on the afternoon walks so Dad cut them back to around 20 minutes given that it is getting warmer now in the afternoons. He has his next leukemia checkup on 10 June with Dr Alexander at Ocean State Veterinary Services. Hopefully, he is still in remission and his bloodwork is good.
Spectacular sunsets & sunrises continue to bless us - our Angels Up Above are working overtime!
