I am asking our residents to come forward with any information regarding to the two shooting incidents that happened yesterday.
This senseless violence is unacceptable in our community and our City and Police Department have zero tolerance for this type of criminal behavior.
Our prayers go out to the victims and their families.
Press Release - CR 2024-00145377 - On 09/21/2024, at 3:25 p.m., Melbourne Police officers were dispatched to the 900 blk of Camphor Way regarding a shooting. Upon arrival they discovered an adult male had been shot. The male was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.
It was reported an unknown male had exited a light-colored car and began shooting at the victim and at least 1 other male who were in the driveway of a home.
After the shooting the car fled the area.
The victim's name is not being released at this time.
Homicide Investigation
CR 2024-145424 - On 09/21/2024, at 7:24 p.m., as investigators were still on scene on Camphor Way a large crowd had gathered at Eddie Lee Taylor Park (3316 Monroe St). Most of the crowd was at the park to watch youth football games. However, a large crowd has also gathered throughout the park believed to be after the funeral of Craig Dewberry who was murdered on September 10, 2024, at the Tip Top Mini Market.
At 7:24 p.m. gunshots were heard at the entrance/exit to the park and the crowd immediately began to flee the area in different directions. It was later discovered two adult males had been shot. One was transported to the hospital by car, and he is currently in critical condition. Another male victim found in the parking lot was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Upon his arrival to the hospital, he was declared deceased.
Currently, the victims) names are not being released.
Detectives are investigating both incidents and attempting to determine if they are connected.
