The office is currently closed.

The photo of the seven swans a swimming was shared recently. If you drive through before the 19th, please share a photo here.... So those who aren't in the area or cannot drive through can enjoy the beauty of the Union Slough NWR this season.

If you can travel through the Union Slough Auto Tour, the swans and other wildlife are growing and changing. This brood will have changed a bit since this photo was taken by the Assistant Manager at the USNWR.

The Auto Tour road conditions were normal last week and the water levels were high as expected. There has been a lot of rain this summer!

Enjoy the views for yourself in an approved vehicle if you are in the area and have time. It's open sunrise to sunset until September 21, 2025.

Recent rains do affect gravel road conditions.
If you were out on the auto tour yesterday, please share a comment about the impact of the heavy rain on the road condition, especially at the low area by the bridge.
Remember the 4.5 mile Union Slough NWR auto tour is ONE-WAY, GRAVEL, AND that leaving your vehicle is not allowed.

The road will dry today but heavy rains MIGHT have left ruts. PLEASE follow the 10 mph speed limit that is ONLY posted at the start of the tour.

The Union Slough NWR Auto Tour is open sunrise until sunset now though September 21, 2025. Refuge Director, Ed Meendering shared this photo of the largest swan brood he has ever seen at the refuge. (Taken yesterday along the tour route.) Thanks for sharing, Ed!!

RAGBRAI LII is passing through today.
Vehicles by the office and cycles at the south exit.
The auto tour is not open until Aug 1, so
please let the baby birds and other wildlife have their habitat.
AND keep trash in the proper place.
