๐ THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE TIOGA ๐
The Tioga Area Economic Development Corporation is excited to introduce a new monthly feature: โThe People Who Make Tioga.โ Every community has buildings, businesses, organizations, and events but people are what truly make a community.
Our first feature, Jordan Schmitt with Tioga Medical Center!
I joined Tioga Medical Center in September 2023 after our family moved back to Ray after more than a decade away. I have 3 daughters with my husband. I am also a member of the Acro Stars Board of Directors and an elementary volleyball coach.
As the Marketing Director, I have the privilege of telling our community about the incredible work happening at Tioga Medical Center every day. One of my favorite parts of my job is finding meaningful ways for our staff to bring TMC into the communities we serve - whether that's offering blood pressure and blood sugar checks at ball games, teaching kids about the importance of handwashing and germs, or bringing people together for a cause.
Together for Tomorrow Walk - September 12 This year, su***de has touched our community in unfathomable ways. Too many families are grieving. Too many people are asking why. And too many people are left wondering what they could have done differently. And unfortunately, I know that pain personally. I lost a loved one to su***de earlier this year. It sounds clichรฉ, but I don't want another family to experience what mine has gone through.
I am so fortunate and grateful to have an incredible committee at TMC helping me with this walk. Together, we want to create an event where our community can remember those we've lost, share our own mental health experiences, connect with others who may be walking through similar struggles, and offer hope - at the walk and beyond.
If we can make one person feel like they matter, that they belong, and that their life has value, then this event will be worth it. If we can encourage even one person to reach out for help, start a difficult conversation, or simply realize they don't have to face something alone, we've accomplished something meaningful.
Other upcoming events I'm working on include the 'Taco Bout Health Tailgate which will take place on Friday, September 18 prior to the Tioga vs. Ray/Powers Lake football game. This event will feature free taco bags, blood pressure and sugar checks, education, and giveaways.
Each month, weโll recognize someone who helps make Tioga a great place to live, work, raise a family, and call home. And we want to hear from YOU!
Weโre looking across all industries and walks of life โ healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, small business, public service, nonprofits, volunteers, hospitality, trades, and beyond. You donโt need a fancy title to make a difference.
๐ Now, help us choose who should be featured next!
Email [email protected] who you believe represents The People Who Make Tioga and tell us a little bit about WHY they deserve to be recognized.
Maybe theyโve served this community for 30 years. Maybe they just moved here and are already making an impact. Maybe theyโre the person who quietly shows up every day and never asks for recognition.
We want to hear their story.
Because at the end of the day, Tioga is made by its people. ๐บ๐ธ
