Some interesting data from a presentation on Saturday at the National Outdoor Conference at Philmont. We're working on some better graphics/ways to represent the data, but here is the bottom line:
• The average tenure of a Scouts BSA member is 29.0 months. Between ages 13-15, Scouts BSA loses 50% of their membership.
• If that Scout joins a Venturing crew, their tenure will increase by 16.5 months to a total of 45.5 months, a 57% increase in Scouting tenure.

This is pretty significant information – especially now that council JTE has a mandatory requirement (under program) to improve retention of youth. This is important information for DE’s, SE’s and those Scoutmaster’s who worry Venturing takes their youth away - when really Venturing helps retain them!
