Here we go!
Many of you know that about 6 months ago we voted to start a Sons of Veterans Reserve unit within Camp 39. ALL members of the Camp are automatically enrolled in the unit and your dues are covered.
The Unit and Member applications as well as Officer Commission requests are now in the hands of the 4th Military District and we are good to go. The EIN application is sitting with the IRS and we are waiting on that, we can still operate as a SVR unit in the meantime.
Being that we have members whose ancestors served in many different units and because we wanted to honor all of the brave Illinois boys who fought to preserve the Union, we did not adopt a traditional Company and Regiment name, but rather a name to honor all. The SVR Unit will be known as the Illinois Veteran Volunteers.
The Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR) is the ceremonial, uniformed military component of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW). While the SUVCW acts as the legal successor to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), the SVR preserves the military traditions, drills, and appearance of the Union Army of 1861–1865.
The SVR is primarily a commemorative organization. Its members serve as the "color guard" and the public face of the SUVCW.
You are now authorized to purchase your Membership badges from the SVR Quartermaster Store at this link. https://svr-qm-store.square.site/
I will make another post explaining the proper wear of the badge.
