The Zurich International School Foundation Board of Directors convened in New York City recently for an in-person strategic planning meeting. The gathering provided an opportunity for Foundation Board members to connect, discuss strategies to advance alumni engagement, and align on philanthropic priorities in support of Zurich International School.

Board members also shared their appreciation for Michaela Seeger, outgoing ZIS Community Relations Director, and extended a warm welcome to Emma Zigan, the new Chief Advancement Officer at Zurich International School.

The Zurich International School Foundation, Inc., made up of members of our alumni community alongside School Director Elsa Hernández-Donohue, is an independent U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting education and Zurich International School in particular. Through the partnership of donors and alumni leaders, the Foundation enables U.S. donors to support this mission in a tax-efficient way and provides an annual grant to ZIS, supporting initiatives that enhance the student experience beyond what tuition alone can provide.

With the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies only 4 days away, we want to celebrate a member of our alumni community as she prepares to compete on sport’s biggest stage.

Sophia Velicer, Class of 2016, is making history as the first Taiwanese woman ever to qualify for the Olympic Winter Games in cross-country skiing, a milestone shaped by dedication, resilience, and courage.

Sophia shared that the moment feels “big and surreal,” and credits the people and experiences along her journey, including ZIS, for helping her navigate uncertainty and step confidently into new challenges. Her former ZIS Coach, Brook Mullens, reflected, “Seeing Sophia grow as an athlete has been inspiring. She has worked incredibly hard, and it’s exciting to watch her race on the Olympic stage.”

We are so proud of you, Sophia, and will be cheering you on!

🌟 Invest in the Next Generation 🌟

👉 Could your organization host a 1-3 week unpaid internship between June 22 and August 14, 2026?

Each year, our Grade 11 students gain real-world work experience through 1-3 week summer internships. Over the course of the school year, our motivated students participated in a variety of workshops, from crafting a CV and writing a cover letter to interview training with mock interviews, equipping them with valuable skills to become the young professionals of the future.

✨ Our program is growing!
With 75+ students seeking opportunities this summer, we’re inviting companies to get involved.

Our students (16+) are multilingual, globally minded, and digitally fluent, eager to learn and contribute.

Every child brings a story.

Our Early Childhood Program sees each child as capable and curious. We nurture their growth through play, connection, and joyful exploration—building confidence, fostering friendships, and sparking a lifelong love of learning.

“Everyday moments take on deeper meaning when experienced through children’s curiosity. Joining their thinking and shared discoveries continues to shape me, both personally and in my work as an early childhood teacher.”

On Saturday, over 100 alumni from the eight ISST member schools across Europe came together in London for the first-ever ISST Alumni Reunion, a celebration of shared history, athletic spirit, and lifelong friendships.

Since 1968, the International Schools Sports Tournament (ISST) has brought students together through sport, building not just athletes but communities grounded in respect, courage, and joy.

From reconnecting with teammates to reminiscing about unforgettable moments on and off the field, the sense of connection was felt by all.

What happens when young people are given the space to lead?

Youth Forum Switzerland, an annual gathering of more than 100 globally minded students from 23 schools worldwide, offered a group of Upper School students an inspiring space to exchange ideas, challenge perspectives, and help shape a better future.

Congratulations to Alice (Grade 10), who took the stage to present on the Forum's theme, “The Power of Small Changes.” Her voice, and those of her peers, offered a compelling glimpse into the insight and leadership young people bring to today’s most meaningful conversations.

This spirit of engagement reflects the learning environment we cultivate at ZIS, one that values courage and fosters the curiosity and global perspective students need to lead with integrity and impact.

At Zurich International School, we are committed to creating learning environments where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
This morning, we welcomed educators from schools across Europe, Mexico City, Johannesburg, and Ghana to our campus for the Next Frontier Inclusion Conversation.
This professional gathering centers on Collaborative Data Practices for Inclusion: Enhancing Learner-Centered Decision Making in Adaptive Tiered Systems.
By sharing knowledge and practices with global peers, we deepen our understanding, challenge our thinking, and raise expectations. These connections lead to more meaningful and inclusive learning experiences for every student.
