Breaking Free EAP & EAL Services Breaking Free offers Equine Assisted Counseling for Veterans, First Responders and their Families. Breaking Free activities are on the ground.

Our mental health services are delivered by creating interactive experiences between clients and horses. A team consisting of a mental health specialist and a horse specialist design sessions with horses that draw upon the herd behavior of horses and their natural inquisitiveness and responsiveness to human emotions. The client sets the pace and the goals for a therapeutic course. Our equine speci

alists are certified through EAGALA, a national and international organization promoting equine assisted mental health.

This Saturday March 28, JMU will be hosting another WOW from 2 pm to 3:30pm. All veterans welcome to come, no cost (free). so come on out to Breaking Free and spent some time with the horses.

Breaking Free will be hosting JMU Empowerment3 Center's program "WOW" (Wellness, Occupation/Education, Worth) on Tuesday February 10th 2026 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.
This program is to support Services Members, Veterans and Families to help reduce su***de rates, prevent opioid addiction. Foster connections. Enhance physical health, emotional wellness and overall quality of life. Support pursuit of career and apprenticeship opportunities.
All Service Members, Veterans and their Families are welcome to come. No Cost. Funding provided by Virginia Department of Veterans Services.
Program involves: Breaking Free's Equine Assisted Therapy and Stress Relief. And JMU's WOW program.
