EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY!
Over the last several weeks, many members of our community have expressed concerns regarding youth safety and volunteer participation within TDC activities. We want everyone to know that these concerns have been heard and taken seriously.
As a Board, we have not been ignoring or avoiding this issue. We have been taking the time necessary to understand the situation, review our responsibilities as a nonprofit organization, seek guidance where appropriate, and determine the best path forward.
While many understandably wanted immediate answers, it was important that we follow proper process and make decisions carefully, fairly, and responsibly.
As part of that review, we discovered that background checks had never been a requirement for volunteers within TDC.
The Board unanimously agreed that this needed to change. Effective IMMEDIATELY, background checks will be required for all volunteers participating in TDC programs, events, and activities.
We understand that some community members have expressed concerns about attending the upcoming Memorial Day Madness Festival. We respect those concerns and want everyone to know that the safety and well-being of our families, children, volunteers, vendors, and guests remain our highest priority.
The Board has been actively addressing these matters behind the scenes, and the actions being implemented are the result of those efforts.
We are a new Board, and while we may not have had all the answers immediately, we have been working diligently to ensure that concerns are addressed appropriately and that meaningful improvements are put in place. We believe responsible leadership requires both due process and decisive action, and we are committed to both.
Our hope is that the Memorial Day Madness Festival remains what it has always been intended to be—a fun, family-friendly event that brings neighbors together and celebrates our community.
