Tillamook County Historical Society

Tillamook County Historical Society The Tillamook County Historical Society was founded in 1984 to bring together those persons interested in preserving the history of Tillamook County.

TCHS is exploring new ways to reach out to people for 2023. We are tentatively planning three main special meetings to be held on Saturdays, with business meetings every other month. Keep checking on Facebook for updates. We are a separate organization from the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum and Tillamook Pioneer Association, concentrating on doing a number of projects such as placing historic p

laques, conducting historical tours, printing books about local history and producing a semi-annual newsletter with local history topics and upcoming events. Annual dues are $20.00 for Family Membership.

The Tillamook County Historical Society was proud to sponsor last night’s event, Dory Fishers—Kickin’ Sand and Story Tellin’!

Around 40 attendees gathered to hear captivating stories, history, and unforgettable moments from four Pacific City dorymen. The panel was facilitated by author Jay Taylor, whose book Persistent Callings: Seasons of Work and Identity on the Oregon Coast explores the cultural and economic history of the Nestucca Valley on the Oregon coast.

A special thank you to the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum for hosting the event, set against the perfect backdrop of the traveling exhibit Launching Through the Surf: The Dory Fleet of Pacific City. Created by Linfield University in partnership with the Pacific City Dorymen’s Association, the exhibit shares the rich history and ongoing traditions of the dory fleet through community stories, artifacts, and photographs.

The exhibit will be on display through April 30, you don’t want to miss it!

It was a wonderful evening celebrating Pacific City's unique fishing traditions.
