Let’s get these bad boys out of the Chesapeake Bay!

For those that did not have the opportunity to experience James Island when it was a natural island, here is a photo from several years ago taken by Robin Houser. It puts the island's demise into perspective by showing the unprotected clay banks of the island that ultimately gave way to the wind-driven waves and tide. With each passing wave the clay simply dissolved into the Chesapeake. Thanks Robin. Here is a link for current info on the island's restoration https://www.nab.usace.army.mil/Mid-Bay/. If you are interested in the history of the island visit the website of the South Dorchester Folk Museum - https://www.sdfmuseum.net/ where you can view videos about the island when it was inhabited. One great video is titled "James Island Memories" where Lee Newcomb recounts family stories of some of the last inhabitants, including his grandfather and grandmother.

Congratulations to Nick Hargrove and his hard working team !

Blue catfish have become a manmade disaster in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. They're an invasive species spreading throughout the region and eating whatever they can find. On the upside, they're good eating, and some commercial fishermen and anglers are doing well catching them.

This is a bit of history in the works!
