New Narrative

Everyone deserves to feel like themselves and have a place to belong.

New Narrative is pleased to join AIGA Portland and CreativeMornings Portland as the community partner for “Personal Work,” an October 16 talk with artist and author Adam J. Kurtz during Portland Design Month.

Alongside the talk, we’ll invite attendees to contribute to a community art wall around one question: What helps you feel more like yourself?

It’s a simple opportunity to share, connect, and learn about New Narrative’s work in mental health care, peer support, and housing.

Join us at Foster Theatre, 5444 SE Foster Rd., Portland. Doors open at 6pm, with the talk beginning at 7pm.

Admission is free. Please reserve your ticket:

NorthStar Clubhouse, a program of New Narrative, was honored to welcome First Lady Aimee Kotek Wilson for a tour, conversation, and time with our members.

During her visit, members shared what NorthStar means to them, reflected on their experiences, and spoke openly about what they need and hope to see as Oregon plans and budgets for mental health services.

Thank you, First Lady Aimee Kotek Wilson, for listening with care, asking thoughtful questions, and making space for the voices of people with lived experience. We were proud to share the community, connection, purpose, and possibility that members and staff build together at NorthStar every day.

We’re grateful for the visit and excited to keep the conversation going. Watch a few moments from the day, and share some appreciation for our members in the comments. 💙

New Narrative is actively participating in Multnomah County budget hearings this month. On Wednesday, May 13, members of NorthStar Clubhouse testified in person at Mt. Hood Community College regarding Clubhouse funding and the importance of supportive employment and community-based mental health services.

In addition, teams across several New Narrative programs are submitting written testimony and participating in hearings throughout the budget process. Community voices matter. Public participation plays an important role in shaping budget decisions that impact behavioral health, housing, and supportive services across our region.

We continue to be led by the vision of a future where everyone seeking mental health care can live the life they choose. What started as one small housing facility has grown into a network of more than 40 sites across metro Portland, providing quality support when people need it most. We will continue to build on what works for mental health care and deliver accessible, individualized services when people need them most. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us!
