Every month that I work with those in in need I realize poverty is like a caged animal being poked with a sharp stick. I no longer wonder why they are mean. I am grateful Helping Hands Hearts of Gold Foundation was able to feed over 600 people last year. Our volunteers are the heart beat of this organization, and what I do has some meaning. Maybe one child goes to bed without hunger and has hope for a better tomorrow.

Helping Hands Hearts of Gold Foundation's food pantry was open today and there were more homeless requesting help from us. One man told me he had a tarp, sleeping bag and blanket so he really didn't need much. His eyes lit up when he saw we had canned chicken noodle soup. As we go through our week let us think about all the good things each of us have.

This Sunday we had lots of new families come through the food pantry. Many of them offered to volunteer their time with Helping Hands Hearts of Gold Foundation! It is exciting to know that people want to pay it forward.

All of us have experienced a day where nothing goes right. We say to ourselves, "It can't get any worse." Next time you have that thought creep into your head stop and think about what I am about to share with you.
At Helping Hands Hearts of Gold Foundation we see people from all walks of life needing a little help with food. The ones that seem to really leave an impression are those that have nothing else to lose in life.
Today we helped many families, but one person stood out and will always be with me in my thoughts. No food, living out of a car and had lost his wife to cancer. He had been heating cans on a hibachi because he did not own a pot or frying pan. He felt ashamed because he needed a shower. All of our volunteers were grateful we had taken time out of our day to help others. That choice made help available to someone who felt hopeless. He was very grateful, but the pleasure was all ours.

Helping Hands Hearts of Gold Foundation has received a grant from the City of Tigard. With their generous support we will be able to continue our work in the community providing low income families with food. Support such as this allows us to fulfill our mission. About two months ago a gentleman came to the food pantry and asked for a person he thought was a volunteer there. No such person had volunteered at Helping Hands Hearts of Gold. I gave him the names of other local food pantries and wish him luck.

Fast forward ( the man) he owned a business and wanted to hire this young man who had no telephone number on his resume. The young man just wrote he volunteered at a food pantry. He was found and hired! Last update everything is working out really well.

Volunteering is important, it may lead to your next job.
