Touch1Life.org Touch 1 Life is a 501(c)(3) organization. Our mission is to help refugee families in need.

Touch 1 Life was established in the Spring of 2022, shortly after the war broke out in Ukraine. Our initial effort was working with local organizations to send humanitarian aid to the people fleeing their homes, often with nothing more than a single suitcase. As refugees began arriving in the US however, we shifted our focus more toward helping these families access the essentials they need to res

tart their lives here in Oregon and SW Washington. Our organization has helped many families, connecting them with generous donors willing to provide things like: beds to sleep on, couches and dining tables on which to gather and much more. In particular though, Touch 1 Life is focused on helping refugee children. Elana, Touch 1 Life’s founder, was once a Ukrainian refugee herself–her family arriving in Portland in the late 80’s, themselves fleeing from Soviet oppression. Like the refugee kids today, she knows first-hand that in times like this, families often cannot prioritize the small creature comforts that help their children feel at home–things like bikes, toys and clothing.

We are on a mission to make the holidays special for the families that have arrived here with nothing more than a suitcase. Please consider donating a new or gently used toy for a refugee family.

Tax-deductible financial donations are also welcome and will allow a family to purchase their own gifts using a gift card.

Meet Lilia and her sweet kids!

I was connected to Lilia when an organization reached out asking if I could help a woman find a high chair for her child. We delivered on the request. I offered toys for her kids and this is a little behind the scenes of our delivery. We fell in love with her sweet children. While Lilia's daughter is still in a bit of shock from having to flee a war zone, little Timur was just excited to get a car full of new toys. He insisted that Thomas the Train belonged in the back seat next to him and not in the trunk of the car.

Lilia's husband had to stay in Ukraine and may be drafted to fight in this senseless war. Our prayers go out to this family and millions of others families who have been torn apart and forced to restart their lives.

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement. People come together to support their communities and continue growing through a collective desire to help each other. Touch 1 Life is excited to participate in this movement for the first time. We want to take a moment to express our gratitude for those who have helped and continue to help us in fulfilling our mission to support refugees and our community more broadly.

Our organization and the families we support would be honored if you would consider us when doing your year-end tax-deductible donations.

Happy Holidays and Best Wishes,

Elana

Fearless Mark jumped on his new bike and quickly took off. With help from Rachel, we found a matching blue bike for his older, soft-spoken, brother, Artem. I visited with their mom who told me about their move from Mariupol. Streets that we see on the news that are completely destroyed were once streets where she walked regularly with her children. A lifetime of memories left behind and so much uncertainty of what their future holds but what's clear is - they're in a safer place for themselves and their children. Ukrainian families may have lost their homes, forced to quit their jobs and flee their homeland but their children shouldn't have to forfeit their childhood. We fell in love with this sweet family and wishing them lots of joy and success in this new chapter of their lives.

“A refugee is someone who survived and who can create the future.” – Amela Koluder

These beautiful Ukraine Refugee children are the future! Today, they might not fully understand why their parents left their home and all their belongings behind. We hope the bikes, toys and handmade quilts we brought to them will help bring them comfort and peace in a new country.

Welcome to Oregon!

isn't just about helping Ukrainian kids it is also about helping families in need in our community. We recently learned about Chris. He lost both of his parents and was taken in by distant relatives. At 13, he has never owned a bike. As it turned out, red is his favorite color and he was happy to see that his new bike and helmet were both red! It is my hope that our efforts will help him ride his way into those formative teenage years in style.

Of all our efforts helping Ukrainians during this time, this was one of the most touching and rewarding moments. When a refugee mother posted online looking for toys and items for her child - items that they had to leave behind, I knew that we could help. I knew it would be a special experience for me as I was about the same age when we arrived in the US as refugees.

As we pulled items out of the trunk of my car, this little 4 year old excitedly grabbed each item. I knew she was eagerly awaiting a bicycle and scooter but when she saw the rollerskates her eyes lit up. Her little shoes quickly came off and her foot was in one rollerskate before I could even unlace it. She held onto a toy stroller and draped a toy car seat on one arm while the other arm grabbed for a little keyboard piano. Then her eyes noticed all the princess dresses of her favorite characters... she paused and squealed from excitement but quickly took off for a ride down the driveway. I snapped this picture with her parent's permission. She skated back towards my car, examined a few more items...found a tiara and took off again. We talked to her parents for a bit about their journey here and then we see the little girl lose her balance and fall. We rushed to help her up and, like a true Ukrainian, she said "vse normalno" (everything is okay)... straightened her crown and kept going.

Thank you, sweet child, for reminding me of my beginnings.

Meet Alex! We have been able to gift him and over 30 newly arrived Ukrainian children with bicycles. As families were forced to flee a war zone - packing toys and bikes for their kids was not an option. As they restart their lives in the US and focus on surviving in a foreign country...buying bikes, is understandably, not their priority. We have brought joy to numerous kids by giving them toys, clothes and bikes.

Join our efforts. Donate today and help us help more local families.
