Our team in Clackamas organized a cooking class for the residents we serve at a permanent supportive housing apartment! Many residents don't use the oven due to physical or mental health concerns, so the class focused on cooking with air fryers.

Everyone who attended got an air fryer to take home, too! We hope our residents enjoy the new culinary avenues available to them.

Permanent supportive housing, or PSH, supports people who have a disabling mental illness like major depressive disorder or schizophrenia, which makes it much harder to independently maintain long-term housing stability. Many residents experience houselessness for several years prior to entering a PSH program.

PSH has no time limit. In a system where it can easily take years to obtain benefits like SSDI, that housing security is crucial. It means residents can recover on their own timeline, developing effective coping strategies for chronic conditions and re-integrating with their community.

“I wish people knew more about the reasons why people are homeless. And there seems to be a stigma out there that everybody that’s homeless is a drug addict or is addicted to drinking, it’s not. It’s people lost their jobs and lost a paycheck.” - Joe
