The Bud Fund

The Charles D. “Bud” Hering, Jr. Foundation is a permanent charitable and educational trust established to honor and commemorate the life and career of the late Tiffin attorney-at-law. In recognition of Mr. Hering’s long and loyal service to his clients, his many friends and his personal commitment to the community in which he lived, his clients and friends have created this foundation as a lasting memorial.

Mr. Hering was born June 20, 1927, in Blair, Nebraska and was a 1945 graduate of Tiffin’s Columbian High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Kenyon College in 1949, his master’s degree from Miami University in 1951, and his law degree from the Ohio State University College of Law in 1955. Mr. Hering practiced law with Webb Tomb, forming the Tomb & Hering law firm in 1957. A Korean War Army veteran, he was a member of numerous civic and professional organizations. Mr. Hering died January 14, 1992.

The primary purpose of the Hering Foundation is to provide funds for educational opportunities to Tiffin area youth. Since 1993, the foundation has awarded over $298,000 in scholarships to 53 graduating seniors from Seneca County high schools. A portion of the scholarship assistance has been awarded to past recipients to ensure their successful completion of college.
