Reminder! Our first FUEL of 2025 is tomorrow, March 22nd!

Please join us at The Boxx Gallery with featured poet Angel Ramirez on March 22, 2025!

Poet Statement: My mother often recounts that I could speak way before I could even stand. Stating “Everyone thought it so amusing that at such a young age he could recite the names of all the cows his grandpa milked.” I once heard my grandma say that as a child my eyes looked like they were devouring the world. She was almost right. I wasn't devouring it, but I was reading it. Still am. Walking through the landscape like one walks through a gallery. Using every ounce of talent that I have to translate and communicate the bits I manage to decipher.

Yesenia Navarrete Hunter, PhD
Yesenia Navarrete Hunter is an artist, musician, and scholar. She is an Assistant Professor of History at Heritage University in Washington State. Dr. Hunter was born in Mexico and came to the U.S. as a child. She is the daughter of Guadalupe Marquez and Alberto Marquez, now of Wapato, Washington, where she grew up as a migrant farm worker. Her current work, called “Entangled Histories of Land and Labor,” centers on the braided histories of immigrants and Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest. By looking at movement, migration, and material practices, Dr. Hunter looks at how groups made places of belonging and crafted opportunities for new relationships through cultural practices. Her public history work is guided by the question: How do people make place and create rhythms of belonging in fragile spaces? The aesthetics of her work are guided by elements of place memory, embodied practices, and relationality.

Acompáñenos a FUEL mientras le damos la bienvenida a la poeta destacada Yesenia Navarrete Hunter. LiTFUSE FUEL estará en una nueva ubicación este mes, Shorthead Brewing (100 N. Tieton Rd. Tieton, WA. 98947). Podrán comprar refrescos y alimentos en Shorthead Brewing.
