September 12, 2025 marked a special day for the Adirondack Fallen Firefighter Project as we hosted our very first 9/11 Ceremony in the Town of Schroon Lake, NY.

This was our first time bringing a remembrance ceremony to this community. While we did not have a large turnout, that is not why we do what we do. Our mission is to bring people together, to honor those we have lost, and to make sure we never forget — and that is exactly what we accomplished.

Since we held our Ticonderoga Walk of Remembrance the day before, three dedicated individuals came out to walk the route we provided for Schroon Lake. Meanwhile, we stayed with our truck and memorial setup to welcome visitors, explain who we are, and share why our work is so important.

Quite a few people stopped to look at the photos on our truck, ask questions, and even bring their children by for pictures. Some people made donations to help support our mission — and for that, we are truly grateful.

It has been 24 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, but we must continue to treat it as if it happened yesterday. The lives lost that day — and those we’ve lost since due to 9/11-related illnesses — deserve to be remembered, honored, and spoken about for generations to come.

🕯️ We will never forget.
🛻 We will keep showing up.
❤️ And we thank our communities for standing with us.

September 11, 2025, the Adirondack Fallen Firefighter Project hosted our Second Annual 9/11 Ceremony in Bicentennial Park in Ticonderoga, NY.

Although turnout was small, we made the most of what we had — because remembering the events of September 11, 2001, is not about the size of the crowd, but about the commitment to never forget.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to:
K of C for their generous $100 donation toward our mission.
🏦 TrailNorth Federal Credit Union for being a proud supporter, believing in us, and continuing to stand by our journey.
🎖️ The kind veteran who joined us for our walk — it was an honor to have you with us.

September 11, 2001, changed our nation forever. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost in the attacks, including 343 firefighters and 23 law enforcement officers. Countless more have since passed due to 9/11-related illnesses. These sacrifices remind us why we must never forget — not just once a year, but every single day.

We hope to see a greater turnout next year, as we continue our mission to honor those who have fallen, support our first responders, and keep the memory of that day alive for generations to come.

🕯️ We must never forget.

September 10th, members of the Adirondack Fallen Firefighter Project had the honor of joining the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce for their annual Veteran Su***de Awareness and Prevention Walk in Glens Falls City Park.

This year’s event was even more meaningful as it was expanded to include first responders, recognizing the challenges that firefighters, police, EMTs, and other emergency personnel face every day. The turnout from the community was incredible — a true reminder that we are stronger when we stand together.

Su***de is not a joke. It is a very real crisis that affects veterans, first responders, and our neighbors every day. We must look out for one another — not just today, not just during September’s Su***de Awareness Month — but every single day.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. Your life matters.

🚒 Adirondack Fallen Firefighter Project in Albany 🚒

This morning, members of the Adirondack Fallen Firefighter Project traveled to Albany, NY, to participate in the annual Tunnel to Towers 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in the Capital Region.

The purpose of our organization is to honor fallen firefighters here in the Adirondacks — but our mission goes beyond that. We honor all firefighters everywhere, and on September 11, 2001, our nation suffered a devastating loss with the deaths of 343 firefighters and 23 police officers. Participating in events like today’s climb is our way of standing in support and remembrance of them as well.

Pictured here are our President, Zachary LaBounty, along with members Jennifer Hopper, Rilee Garrabrant, and Mark Garrabrant. After the climb, we joined with members of the Ticonderoga Fire Department to grab a bite to eat and reflect on the day before heading back home to Ticonderoga.

🇺🇸 We climb because they climbed. We remember because they can’t be forgotten.

thank you Tunnel to Towers Capital Region NY for having us there it’s a amazing benefit event

📢 Important Update / 9-11 Support Crisis

We came across this article from ABC7 New York reporting that 24 years after the 9/11 attacks, more than 400 members of FDNY have died from World Trade Center related illnesses* — that surpasses the 343 firefighters who were killed on that day.

What makes this especially alarming:
• Firefighters and first responders continue to lose life months and years later, as long-term illnesses and cancers that stem from exposure during and after 9/11 worsen.
• The World Trade Center Health Program is reportedly facing staff shortages, funding shortfalls, and may be unable to enroll new patients in the near future — which means people who served, and continue to suffer, might lose critical care.

🔥 What this means for us & our mission

At the Adirondack Fallen Firefighter Project, we honor fallen firefighters here in the Adirondacks — and all over the country. We also recognize that honoring them means supporting them while they are still alive, especially those who survived 9/11 but whose health is under attack.

It’s not enough to remember the heroism of that day; we must also fight for their health, care, and dignity.

🙏 What you can do / How you can help
• Share this article to help raise awareness of the ongoing crisis.
• Support legislation and funding for the World Trade Center Health Program so that no responder is left without care.
• Reach out to local representatives and express support for resources for 9/11 responders suffering long-term health effects.
• If you or someone you know is affected, know that you are not alone. Support networks exist, and voices speaking out matter.

Let’s ensure the sacrifice of 9/11 firefighters is honored not just in memory, but in action — by helping them in life, as they continue to endure the consequences.

24 years after the September 11 terror attacks, the FDNY has lost more than 400 members to World Trade Center illnesses, surpassing the 343 firefighters killed on that day.

🕯️ Today We Remember – 9/11 Memorial & Remembrance Walk 🕯️

Today, we pause to honor and remember all the lives lost on September 11th, 2001.
Today marks another anniversary of that tragic day, and we must never forget.
But as the years go by, some people do forget.

Our mission at the Adirondack Fallen Firefighter Project is to make sure that never happens.

Tonight, at five-thirty PM, we invite you to join us at Bicentennial Park in Ticonderoga as we come together as a community to remember:

The three hundred forty-three firefighters who bravely ran into the towers, knowing they might never come out.
The police officers, the EMTs, the civil servants, and so many others who gave everything that day.
And all the victims who later lost their lives to illnesses caused by that day.

We will walk roughly two miles through town to honor the men and women who climbed those towers as they were collapsing around them — a true act of bravery and heroism.

Let’s also remember the many people from across the country — including those from right here in Ticonderoga — who went to help New York City in those dark times.
Some of them later developed illnesses and cancers from their service.

When we forget, we become vulnerable.
Life can change in an instant.
Let’s never take it for granted.

Join us tonight at five-thirty in Bicentennial Park.
And don’t forget to join us tomorrow night at six o’clock at the water fountain next to Stewart’s in Schroon Lake.

Together, let’s make sure we never forget.
