The Lovely Bones...a terribly beautifully well done super creepy film. Loved it and hated it. Sadly, this type of sick mental mind f'ing is what many kids deal with in divorced families. It's so extremely yucky. Outbursts of anger and violence followed by mind twisting social etiquette norm banter...leaving the child confused, scared and feeling incredibly helpless. It takes an ever so strong other parent to help the child/children feel some level of empowerment in this bleak situation.

What challenges do you consciously give your children that build their strength and resilience? I was listening to my new favorite podcast REWILD today and Daniel Vitalis was discussing how "trust fund kids" really aren't dealt any favors. Then I thought...well though my kids aren't trust fund kids, they certainly have it easy...but I do go out of my way to put forth challenges. Even if they are small. They are challenges that buck the norm of the enslaved Mom doting on them. So in honor of the beginning of the school year, I give you my #1 challenge imposed on my kids: MAKE YOUR OWN LUNCH and wash the containers it was in after school! Phew...I know that's such a big one. But it actually is such a big one! Happy back to school!

Thought this might be appreciated by The Mother Rising Crowd. We worry so much about how our kids will turn out with divorce/separation, but in the end they are resilient and will learn things that other children in lasting relationships will not. And it's not all bad! Check this out!

Ok Folks...Mercury is in retrograde and let's face it...it's insane out there and will be through June 11th if you follow the planets. Let's focus on the only thing we can. Not what others are doing or not doing, but on ourselves. Let's commit to ourselves and build our healthy self-esteem in the midst of the chaos! Make choices that reflect your commitment to YOU. Small or big...drink more water, sleep an extra 15 minutes, breathe deeply for 10 minutes a day. ANYTHING you can think of that shows YOU that you are committed to YOU!

No one will ever take the memory of my Father Daughter dance at my wedding away. Heard the song we danced to today and went right back to that wonderful moment.

Sometimes when we are in the heat of divorce, it's challenging to think we will ever be able to look back on the wedding day at all with any fondness. So glad my divorce can't touch this memory.

I think during my divorce that the drums in my soul were playing like the last scene in the movie Whiplash...not quite so peaceful as in this picture, but they sure did give me a wake up call!

Better late than never...wishing all of you Mothers a very HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! Wishing that it was a wonderful celebration no matter what stage of pre, during or post-divorce that you are in. You are to be celebrated. Being a Mom is a tough job. Becoming a single Mom even harder. Becoming a Single Mom picking up the emotional pieces for the children if the other parent is challenged in this capacity harder still and then being a single Mom in a new relationship/marriage...well....you will always be challenged with parenting on your OWN to some degree since these children are yours...no matter how well the new love/spouse knows your kids. So Hooray for Moms!!! You ROCK! Keep up the good work and be sure to take a moment to honor yourself for the true rockstar that you are. - Margaret
