Stanford Asian Pacific American Alumni Club Stanford Asian Pacific American Alumni Club

Established in 1989, the Stanford Asian Pacific American Alumni Club (SAPAAC) is Stanford University's largest ethnic affinity group and one of the largest alumni organizations. We organize community building, education, and networking opportunities for alumni of Asian or Pacific Islander heritage. We also fund a scholarship for current students, support the Asian American Activities Center (A3C)

at Stanford, and advocate for our communities on campus. Today, SAPAAC is now an official, chartered club of the Stanford Alumni Association (SAA), whose mission is to reach, serve and engage Stanford alumni by nurturing strong intellectual and emotional connections between the university and its graduates.

On April 25, 2026c SAPAAC hosted an event, KPop and the BTS Effect, a conversation with Professor Dafna Zur (East Asian Languages and Culture) and Jinwoo Park (, author of Oxford Soju Club), moderated by SAPAAC Secretary and Board Member Jean Park, in time for the Arirang concerts. The discussion was about BTS’s incredible journey, the cultural impact of their latest “Arirang” album, and the power of the Army, one of the most dedicated fandoms on the planet.

For our Seattle-area members, on Tuesday, March 31, 6:30 pm, we're hosting an interactive storytelling workshop with Luis Ortega, founder of Storytellers for Change. Participants are invited to explore the power of personal narrative as a tool for connection, reflection, and collective change, with a special focus on immigration stories, histories, and lived experiences. This workshop emphasizes storytelling not simply as communication, but as a practice of self-discovery, community building, and memory justice. It has been made possible through a generous donation by an alumnus and SAPAAC member.

Join us for a virtual fireside chat with Stanford’s new Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football, Tavita Pritchard (‘09)!

Prior to Stanford, Coach Pritchard was the Quarterbacks coach for the Washington Commanders and was the former Offensive Coordinator for Stanford Football under David Shaw. On and off the field, Pritchard has spent time mentoring fellow Samoan and Polynesian youth in football, highlighting his own cultural heritage in a sport where less than 0.5% of NCAA football players identify as AAPI. Looking ahead to the 2026 season, Pritchard enters his inaugural year amidst recent football coach turnover at Stanford, playing in the bicoastal ACC, and helping raise the next generation of student-athletes on the Farm.

This conversation is moderated by SAPAAC Board Member and former Chair of the Stanford Axe Committee, Alex Hou (‘22).

“Tavita Pritchard is exactly the right head coach at the right time to help us build on the foundation of this season and lead Stanford football to its next great era. Coach Pritchard is a culture builder, a teacher of football of the highest caliber, and a humble yet determined servant leader who is committed to the success of Stanford’s student-athletes. I could not be more excited to welcome Tavita, Caroline and their family back to campus.”

- Andrew Luck (‘12), Stanford Football GM

Bay Area SAPAAC alums took the ferry from San Francisco to visit Angel Island, the “Ellis Island of the West”.
From 1910-1940, over 300,000 immigrants from 80 countries were detained and evaluated for weeks, months, or even years as they sought entry into the United States. Many Asian immigrants passed through Angel Island, with the plurality coming from China and significant numbers also hailing from India, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines.
Nowadays, the island is both a beautiful state park and a preserved history of our not-too-distant past.
